Bangladesh will be without all-rounder Rumana Ahmed for these qualifiers due to a knee injury, with the Tigers opting for a mix of youth and experience. Teenager Sobhana Mostary is among the players recalled on the back of the Emerging Players series with South Africa. The team is captained by Salma Khatun and top-order batsmen Nigar Sultana will be behind the stumps.
BANW Key Players
Nahida Akter: The 19-year-old slow left-arm bowler took seven wickets in the Tigers’ three matches in the Netherlands as they geared up for this tournament, including 4-11 in the win against the hosts – her best WT20I figures.
Ayasha Rahman: The right-handed opening bat showed little touches of what she can do at last year’s World Twenty20 – including scoring 39 against England – and needs to start building on those starts now.
Salma Khatun: Hugely experienced off-spinning captain has taken 54 WT20i wicket in her career – more than any other Bangladesh Women’s player – at an average of 17.37 and with an economy rate of 4.81 runs per over.
BANW Team Form
Bangladesh geared up for this tournament by calling in to the Netherlands on their way to Scotland. There, they faced Thailand and the hosts and won all three matches thanks to some excellent bowling displays. They restricted Thailand to 68/5 and 87/5 in their two matches and, in between, held the Netherlands to 70/8. They also bowled the Dutch out for 51 in their warm-up match in Scotland.
