Who will win Australia vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20 2019?

Australia can wrap up series victory with a game to spare after kicking off preparations for next season’s T20 World Cup with a dominant win in the first match of this series. The second match of the series takes place at The Gabba, Brisbane, on October 30 and the live action is scheduled to start at 18:10 local time.

David Warner’s unbeaten 100 off 56 balls saw Australia post 233/2 in the first match, before they restricted Sri Lanka to just 99/9 in reply. In terms of runs, it was Australia’s biggest ever T20i win and Sri Lanka’s biggest defeat.

Sri Lanka had little to shout about as they came crashing back down to earth after their series success in Pakistan. Kasun Rajitha was hit for 75 from his four wicketless overs – the most expensive T20i bowling figures ever – and only number 11 Nuwan Pradeep scored at more than a run-a-ball in a dismal reply.

AUS vs SL Toss Prediction

Sri Lanka elected to field first in the opening game, which proved a bad error of judgement. Australia are due to win this toss and will likely elect to bat first again.

AUS vs SL Weather Report

While there is very little chance of rain, conditions in Brisbane are still forecast to be cloudy and overcast all through the day.

AUS vs SL Pitch Condition

The Gabba is known as a batting wicket, with little in the way of assistance for the bowlers. On the pitch alone, this could be another excellent day for the Australian batsmen.

Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

Aaron Finch was fit to play in the first match, as he had promised he would be, and the Australia captain made his mark with the bat too. While this series is part of the build-up to next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, Australia could stick with mostly the same XI for now rather than chopping and changing too much – rhythm is as important as assessing all their options. Mitchell Starc does miss out, however, as he will be at his brother’s wedding – Sean Abbott could replace him.

AUS Key Players

Glenn Maxwell: Having been in superb form against India in February, the all-rounder’s excellent T20i batting continued as he smashed 62 from 28 balls. He then claimed a stunning run out from the outfield too.

David Warner: Marked his return to Australia’s T20i team with an unbeaten century at the top of the order to mark his 33rd birthday in style. It was his first T20i century, but his eighth overall in T20 cricket.

Aaron Finch: Fit to play in the first game and hammered 64 from 36 balls at the top of the order to continue the form he had been showing domestically. His T20i reputation is already well established.

AUS TeamForm

This is Australia’s first T20i series since beating India in February but they proved their form has not deserted them in the interim. David Warner led the way with the bat, alongside Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell, as they smashed their way to their biggest ever T20i win in the first match. After posting 233/2, Adam Zampa’s 3-14 and two wickets apiece for Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins ensured the brakes were slammed firmly on the reply – Sri Lanka posting 99/9 from their 20 overs.

Australia Predicted Playing 11

Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey (wk), Steve Smith, Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar, Kane Richardson, Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa

AUS vs SL Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keeper

Kusal Perera is due a score for Sri Lanka and, though he costs 9.5 credits, he may be a better option than Alex Carey (8.5 credits) if Australia’s top order fire without the wicket-keeper-batsman this time. Carey could still be worth it though – he is good value at that price.

Batsmen

Aussie openers David Warner and Aaron Finch put on a century partnership last time out, with Warner posting 100*. Both will be keen for more runs this time, justifying their price of 10.5 credits and ten credits. Steve Smith is also ten credits, but that may be too much – especially if he does not get a bat again. For Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka are both at the top of the order and both cost nine credits. One of the two will be a good pick.

All-rounders

Glenn Maxwell was in excellent form in the first match, even though he did not bowl. He smashed a quick-fire half-century and then claimed a brilliant run-out so he is well worth picking up at 9.5 credits. Dasun Shanaka is 8.5 credits for Sri Lanka, meanwhile – he is a good pick given he picked up a wicket and can bat well in the middle order too. Even further down the pricing scale, Ashton Agar picked up a wicket in the first game and is worth selection at just eight credits.

Bowlers

Mitchell Starc will not play this game, leaving Pat Cummins to lead the Australian pace attack. He is nine credits, as is Lasith Malinga – who remains central to Sri Lanka’s bowling. Adam Zampa picked up three wickets in each of his last two matches against Sri Lanka, meanwhile, and is only 8.5 credits.

Captain/vice-captain

Another batting wicket is expected, so more batting success for Warner, Finch and Maxwell could be on the cards. Maxwell can bowl too, though he did not last time out, but he remains a good all-round choice as captain. Given he outscored Finch last time out, Warner as vice-captain is still a good pick.

Sri Lanka Team News & Playing 11

SL Team News

Oshada Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa – who starred in their maiden tour as Sri Lanka whitewashed Pakistan – were handed another chance despite the return of their senior players. After both falling short with the bat – in fact, the whole team did – they will need to make the most of any further opportunities if they are to retain their places. Kasun Rajitha may be taken out of the firing line, meanwhile, having been hit for 75 from his four overs. Isuru Udana could replace him.

SL Key Players

Lasith Malinga: Back to lead the team, the Sri Lankan icon was in fine form in his last T20i series as he moved past 100 wickets in the format. His slingy yorkers remain a key part of Sri Lanka’s bowling armoury.

Kusal Perera: The wicket-keeper-batsman has hit ten T20i half-centuries at a rate of one every four matches so far, with a strike rate of 135.36. His average suggests he is now overdue one.

Nuwan Pradeep: Claimed seven wickets in Malinga’s absence in Pakistan and was the only Sri Lankan bowler to record respectable figures in the last match – bowling nine dot balls on his way to 0-28 from four overs.

SL Team Form

Sri Lanka whitewashed Pakistan with an inexperienced side last time out, but the first match of this series was a chastening return to earth. Kasun Rajitha was hammered for 75 from his four overs, while the batting was dismal – scoring just 99/9 in reply to 233/2.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Head to Head

While Sri Lanka have won eight of their 14 matches against Australia, the last two have gone the way of the Aussies with Aaron Finch and Adam Zampa playing big roles in each win – despite them being 30 months apart. Finch hit half-centuries in each match and Zampa took three wickets in each, but David Warner was the star of the show most recently – his 100* helped Australia to 233/2 and Sri Lanka mustered just 99/9 in reply – Australia’s biggest T20i win in terms of runs, and Sri Lanka’s biggest defeat.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Betting Odds

Australia were already big favourites but unsurprisingly their odds have now shortened even further.

AUS Bet365 Odds

  • AUS to Win the Match: Australia are 1.12 favourites to beat Sri Lanka with Bet365 in the second match of this series.
  • AUS Top Batsman: David Warner opened the series with a superb unbeaten century and he is 3.60 joint-favourite to be Australia’s top batsman again with Bet365. Aaron Finch hit a half-century in that game and he can be backed at the same price, while Glenn Maxwell – who also hammered a half-century in a century partnership with Warner – is a very generous 6.00. In between are Steve Smith (4.33) and Alex Carey (5.50) – neither of whom got a bat last time out.
  • AUS Top Bowler: Adam Zampa took three wickets last time out, and he is 4.33 favourite to be Australia’s top bowler with Bet365 in this game too. Pat Cummins is favourite at 3.75, while Kane Richardson is 5.00 and Ashton Agar is 5.50. Sean Abbott could replace Mitchell Starc for Australia, and Abbott is 4.50.

SL Bet365 Odds

  • SL to Win the Match: Sri Lanka are now as high as 6.00 to beat Australia with Bet365.
  • SL Top Batsman: No batsman stood out for Sri Lanka last time out, but the opening pair of Kusal Mendis (4.00) and Danushka Gunathilaka (5.00) could both still be worth backing to be their top batsman in their second T20i with Bet365. Kusal Perera can also be backed at 5.00, while relative newcomers Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Oshada Fernando are 5.50 and 6.00 respectively.
  • SL Top Bowler: Lasith Malinga remains 3.40 to be Sri Lanka’s top team bowler with Bet365. Nuwan Pradeep was economical but wicketless last time out and he is 5.00 with Bet365, as is Isuru Udana. Wanidu Hasaranga can be backed at 4.50. Lakshan Sandakan (5.50) and Dasun Shanaka (11.00) were the two to take wickets in the first T20i.

AUS Betway Odds

  • AUS to Win the Match: Australia are 1.14 favourites to beat Sri Lanka with Betway.
  • AUS Top Batsman: After their heroics in the first game, Australia’s top three are all short prices with Betway to be the hosts’ top batsman. Aaron Finch is favourite at 3.20, while David Warner is 3.25. Glenn Maxwell can now be backed at 3.75. The only other batsman in single digits is Steve Smith – he is 4.33 with Betway.
  • AUS Top Bowler: With Mitchell Starc away, Kane Richardson is 3.20 to be Australia’s top bowler and Pat Cummins can be backed at 3.50 – the same price as Adam Zampa. Ashton Agar is 4.50, while Sean Abbott is 4.25.

SL Betway Odds

  • SL to Win the Match: Sri Lanka are 5.50 outsiders to beat Australia with Betway.
  • SL Top Batsman: Openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis are both priced at 3.75 to be Sri Lanka’s top batsman with Betway, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa is also available at 3.75. Kusal Perera is due a score and he can be backed at 4.75 with Betway.
  • SL Top Bowler: Lasith Malinga is 3.60 favourite to be Sri Lanka’s top bowler with Bet365. The Sri Lankan captain will be looking to get back to the form he showed against New Zealand. Nuwan Pradeep is 5.00 while the two wicket-takers – Lakshan Sandakan and Dasun Shanaka – are 6.00 and 8.00 respectively.

🏆 Australia vs Sri Lanka Prediction

Australia are huge favourites to beat Sri Lanka in this second T20i and, on the evidence of the first game of the series, there is little to suggest that will not be the case.
