Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc sat out of the warm-up match with England but could get some overs under their belt against Sri Lanka. Glenn Maxwell was the other player not to feature with bat or ball last time out and he too could play a more prominent role in this game.
Steve Smith hit 116 runs from 102 balls in their 1st Warm up match of World Cup 2019, against England, hitting eight fours and three sixes, to continue his superb batting form. It followed scores of 89*, 91* and 76.
David Warner hit 43 at the top of the order, meanwhile, to rediscover some of the form he showed in being the top-scoring batsman at the IPL. Opening partner, and captain, Aaron Finch fell short but he was in outstanding form in the recent series whitewash of Pakistan.
Glenn Maxwell could come back into the batting line-up, meanwhile, after his half-centuries in the matches against New Zealand.
On the bowling front, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc could come back into the team to lead the pace attack. Cummins has been one of Australia’s stand-out players during their recent turnaround in form.
Australia’s one-day turnaround continued with a warm-up win against England last time out – Steve Smith scoring a century in a 12-run win at the Rose Bowl.
Smith and Shaun Marsh had previously passed 50 as Australia beat West Indies at the same ground in an unofficial warm-up match, while they also played three unofficial matches against New Zealand before travelling – winning the first and last to claim the series 2-1.

Avishka Fernando and Lasith Malinga did not bat or bowl in the match against South Africa and both could play a part in this warm-up. Malinga has not featured so far for Sri Lanka since their arrival in the UK – enjoying an extended rest on the back of his IPL heroics.
After the surprise decision to restore his place in the team and make him captain, Dimuth Karunaratne has justified the selectors’ gamble so far. He hit 77 in the ODI win against Scotland and 87 in the warm-up defeat to South Africa.
Angelo Mathews, recalled after being sacked as captain, hit 64 last time out to continue the form he showed in Sri Lanka’s domestic one-day tournament.
Thisara Perera was unbeaten after only facing 11 balls, unable to replicate the fireworks he has already showed on T20 duty this year. He has also proved handy with the ball too
Isuru Udana has excelled in T20 tournaments across the globe on occasions, although not to the same extent as Lasith Malinga – the latter is comfortably Sri Lanka’s star player ahead of the World Cup. His slingy pace-bowling and slower-ball yorkers continue to confound batsman worldwide.
Sri Lanka are in dreadful form in ODI cricket, epitomised by their early exit at the Asia Cup – following defeats to Bangladesh and Afghanistan – from which they have never recovered.
Though they marked their arrival in the UK by beating Scotland – ending a run of eight consecutive ODI defeats (in whitewashes by New Zealand and South Africa) – but lost their first warm-up match against the Proteas last time out.
Against Scotland, Avishka Fernando, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis all scored half-centuries in a total of 322/8. Nuwan Pradeep took 4-34 in Scotland’s rain-affected reply as Sri Lanka bowled them out for 199. Last time out, however, they conceded 338/7 against South Africa and were dismissed for 251 in reply.

Australia have a dominant ODI record against Sri Lanka, winning 60 of their 96 previous matches against each other. Sri Lanka have won 32 and there have been four no results.
Australia won the most recent bilateral series between the two 4-1 in 2016 in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s lone win was their biggest in terms of runs against Australia – an 82-run victory in the second match – but Australia won the last three in a row, bowling the hosts out for 226, 212 and 195.

Australia are, unsurprisingly, big favourites to beat Sri Lanka. The in-form Aussies are 1.28 to win with Betway, while Sri Lanka are 3.50.
Despite victory against England, Australia scored slowly in that match. On a batsman-friendly wicket David Warner and Aaron Finch at the top of the order could look for a more aggressive start against out-of-form Sri Lanka. Betway are offering 2.25 on Australia scoring over 91.5 runs in the first 15 overs.
Steve Smith is in red-hot batting form, meanwhile, and he is a surprisingly generous 1.83 to score more than 35.5 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Dimuth Karunaratne is 1.83 to score over 26.5 runs after his two back-to-back half-centuries.
Australia are in brilliant pre-World Cup form, which is the exact opposite of Sri Lanka. Australia should sign off for the tournament with a win.
