Australia vs New Zealand 1st ODI Match Prediction

Australia return to home soil for a late-season ODI series against New Zealand in which the hosts will be desperate to end their current 50-over losing streak. The first match of this series takes place at the SCG on March 13, and the live action is scheduled to start at 14:30 local time.

Australia have lost their last five ODIs, including three heavy defeats to South Africa, but are hopeful a home series can see them wrap up the summer on a high note. They beat New Zealand at the World Cup, however, and have a dominant record in this fixture.

New Zealand have won their only three matches since the World Cup final defeat to England on the other hand, beating India 3-0 in their most recent bilateral series thanks to some excellent batting performances.

Australia Team News & Playing 11

AUS Team News

With Glenn Maxwell still out injured, Australia have the same squad that toured South Africa – with the exception of Jhye Richardson. Mitchell Starc is back, having missed the final game of that series to watch wife Alyssa Healy in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final.

AUS Key Players

Steve Smith: In good form in ODI cricket at the end of the series with India and the start of the tour of South Africa too – he has now reached 50 on 34 occasions in ODI cricket, turning nine of those into centuries.

Marnus Labuschagne: His batting form has been excellent this season and he ended the series with South Africa with his first ODI century to move to 249 runs in his first five innings in the format.

Pat Cummins: Went past 100 ODI wickets in the series against South Africa and he now has 102 in 63 appearances in the format.

AUS Team Form

Australia have now lost their last five ODI matches in a row and won just one of their last eight matches in total. Most recently, having been bowled out for 217 and 271 to lose the first two matches in South Africa, they only managed 254/7 in the third and final game despite Marnus Labuschagne’s run-a-ball 108. Josh Hazlewood took two wickets in reply, but South Africa won by six wickets with 4.3 overs to spare.

Australia Predicted Playing 11

David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, D’Arcy Short, Alex Carey (wk), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

AUS vs NZ Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keeper

Tom Latham and Alex Carey are both 8.5 credits, which is good value for either. Latham tends to be slightly more prominent than his Australian counterpart, however, and could be the better option.

Batsmen

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to the batsman, and getting the right balance is tricky. Start at the other end of the price scale and, after his century last time out, Marnus Labuschagne is worth picking up at 8.5 credits. That leaves space, realistically, for a maximum of four of the five top-priced batsmen. David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith make up Australia’s top three, leaving a shoot-out between Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson at ten credits apiece for the final place. Taylor is ahead of Williamson in the world rankings, and his recent form reflects that.

All-rounders

Save credits on the all-rounders – Mitchell Santner is just eight credits but this could be a turning Sydney wicket on which he will be prominent if he plays. D’Arcy Short found some batting form for Australia in South Africa, meanwhile, so he too looks good value at just eight credits. Colin de Grandhomme and Ashton Agar are more than worthy alternatives at the same price.

Bowlers

That leaves room for three bowlers, and enough credits to ensure you are shopping at the top. Trent Boult is back for New Zealand and Mitchell Starc likewise for Australia. Both will be key, as will Pat Cummins for the hosts.

Captain/Vice-captain

Ross Taylor is in excellent batting form and, of the Australian batsmen, Steve Smith has been in excellent touch recently too. If you would prefer to look at the bowlers, Trent Boult is not the world number one bowler for nothing, while Mitchell Starc took five when these teams last met. One batsman, one bowler might be a good blend and likewise one from each team.

AUS vs NZ Dream11 Team Prediction

  • Batsmen:Ross Taylor (c), Steve Smith, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Marnus Labuschagne

  • All Rounder:Mitchell Santner, D’Arcy Short

  • Wicket Keeper:Tom Latham

  • Bowler:Trent Boult, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc (vc)

New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

New Zealand’s pace attack is back to full strength with Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry all fit again. The main selection decisions will centre around the all-rounders, with Mitchell Santner, Jimmy Neesham and Kyle Jamieson competing for a maximum of two places.

NZ Key Players

Ross Taylor: Scored 109* and 73* in the first two matches against India, and now has 8,570 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 48.69.

Trent Boult: Back in the ODI squad, the paceman has taken 164 wickets in 89 one-day internationals and sits top of the ICC’s ODI bowling rankings.

Kane Williamson: Only played one of the three ODIs against India, but that was his 150th match in a format in which he averages 47.70 with the bat and has scored 13 hundreds and 39 half-centuries.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand won all three matches of their series with India. They chased 348 to win the first game by four wickets – their highest ODI chase – thanks to Ross Taylor’s century, before defending 273/8 in the second to win by 22 runs. In the final game, Henry Nicholls scored 80 as they reached 300/5 in 47.1 overs for a five-wicket victory.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson
