Who will win Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades, WBBL 2019?

Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades get their Women’s Big Bash League campaigns underway at the Karen Rolton Oval, Adelaide, on October 19. The match gets underway at 14:00 local time.

Adelaide Strikers will hope to make a big impression in their first home game as they look to improve on last season’s sixth-placed finish. With some smart investment so far, they certainly have a strong squad on paper.

The Renegades have already proved themselves strong – building on the squad which finished fourth last year and only lost the semi-final on a super over. They key battle will be between the Renegades’ pace bowlers and the Strikers’ opening partnership.

ADSW vs MLRW Toss Prediction

Previous matches at the Karen Rolton Oval have leaned slightly towards favouring teams who bat first, and the Strikers may elect to do just that if they win the toss in their first home game.

ADSW vs MLRW Weather Report

Temperatures will only be in the high teens in Adelaide on Sunday, but the forecast is clear of rain and conditions should be mostly sunny at the Karen Rolton Oval.

ADSW vs MLRW Pitch Condition

Still a very new ground (and very new wicket), there is little to go on from previous games. If anything, it leans slightly towards batting and seam-up bowling but the pitch at the Karen Rolton Oval has generally been well-balanced.

Adelaide Strikers Women Team News & Playing 11

ADSW Team News

Adelaide Strikers have a new coach, Luke Williams, for the new campaign and a big-name new signing in West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor. Taylor is available for the start and end of the campaign, so this is one of the fixtures she is free to play before joining up with the national team. Katie Mack joins from Melbourne Stars, while Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates will be above her and Taylor at the top of the order.

ADSW Key Players

Stafanie Taylor: The West Indies captain made her 100th WT20i appearance last month, during which time she has scored 2,900 runs – including 21 half-centuries – and taken 84 wickets at an average of 17.08. She is ranked fourth for batting and third as an all-rounder in the ICC WT20i rankings.

Suzie Bates: The number-one ranked WT20i batsman in the world, the New Zealander returns to the Strikers where her and Sophie Devine will be looking to rekindle their top-order partnership. She most recently helped Southern Vipers to the KSL Final in England.

Megan Schutt: Ranked the number one WT20i bowler in the world, the Aussie quick has been in excellent bowling form of late. Six wickets in the series against West Indies and three against Sri Lanka took her to 71 in 56 WT20 internationals.

ADSW Team Form

Adelaide Strikers won five of their 14 matches last season, therefore finishing off the pace and out of the play-offs in sixth place. Their final game saw them post 140/6 from their 20 overs against Perth Scorchers only to lose by ten wickets with 20 balls remaining.

Wicket-keeper

Tegan McPharlin and Josie Dooley are set to be the wicket-keepers in this game, but only McPharlin is listed as one – Erica Kershaw is listed for the Renegades. If Dooley takes the gloves, Kershaw may not feature. McPharlin may be the better choice.

Batsmen

Suzie Bates and Tammy Beaumont both cost 9.5 credits. Bates’ form and reputation make her a must pick, though Beaumont has only just come back from injury. Given the cost of the all-rounders, it mat be better to go for lower-cost options with Bates. Jess Duffin, the Renegades’ newly-appointed captain, and Adelaide’s new signing Katie Mack, fit the billing at 8.5 and eight credits each.

All-rounders

That frees up some credits to ensure you can select in-form Danni Wyatt and Adelaide’s key overseas duo Sophie Devine and Stafanie Taylor. Devine was the Strikers’ top run scorer last season and formed a superb partnership with fellow Kiwi Bates at the top of the order. Wyatt is in red-hot form after the Kia Super League, meanwhile, and Taylor will expect to have a big impact with bat and ball – she took 19 wickets in 14 innings for Sydney Thunder last season.

Bowlers

Megan Schutt is the world’s number one bowler in WT20i cricket and she is well worth her 9.5-credit cost. Georgia Wareham is 8.5 credits, meanwhile, which is excellent value after her rise to becoming an Australian regular. Lia Tahuhu joins Wareham as a key Renegades’ bowler. With those three, it leaves enough in reserve for Amanda-Jade Wellington as the fourth bowler.

Captain/Vice-captain

Stafanie Taylor has a small window to make an impact on this tournament and this is one of those games. When she does not score runs, she tends to take wickets at least. One of the world’s leading all-rounders, Taylor could be a great pick for Dream 11 captain. Her fellow all-rounders Danni Wyatt and Sophie Devine are other top alternatives. Devine was in excellent form in last season’s competition in particular. Wyatt is in top batting form, meanwhile.

Melbourne Renegades Women Team News & Playing 11

MLRW Team News

Only one half of Melbourne Renegades’ New Zealand power couple returns as a player this year, with Amy Satterthwaite pregnant with hers and Lea Tahuhu’s first child. Tahuhu is available, however, and the Gades have added Tammy Beaumont as an overseas player in Satterthwaite’s absence. Tayla Vlaeminck has left, but Josie Dooley has signed and will be behind the stumps. Jess Duffin is set to captain the team.

MLRW Key Players

Georgia Wareham: Bumped up to marquee status having established herself in the Australian team, the leg-spinner took eight wickets across the two series wins against Sri Lanka and West Indies, and has 22 in total from her first 20 WT20Is. For the ‘Gades, she took

Sophie Molineux: Another to have had her status upgraded since breaking into the Australia squad, the slow left-armer took 16 wickets in 14 matches in this tournament last season and she also hit a half-century in the semi-final.

Danni Wyatt: Back with the Renegades this season, and set to link up with England team-mate Tammy Beaumont, she was in blistering batting form in the Kia Super League. The Southern Vipers’ opener smashed 466 runs in 11 innings with a strike rate of 166.42.

MLRW Team Form

Melbourne Renegades reached the Big Bash semi-finals last season after a fourth-place finish, courtesy of seven wins and a no result from their 14 games.

In the semi-final they restricted Sidney Sixers to 131/4, with Lea Tahuhu taking 1-18, but they posted 131/6 from their 20 overs in reply. There, the Gades could only post six from their over, and Molly Strano was unable to defend it.
