Adelaide Strikers Team News & Playing 11

ADS Team News

Travis Head is away on Australia duty, as is Michael Neser, but Alex Carey is available. He batted at number four last time out, with Phil Salt opening with Jake Weatherald, but the two could swap this time.

ADS Key Players

Alex Carey: Started with 45 from 40 balls to move past 1,200 runs in T20 cricket, from just 47 innings. He boasts a strike rate of 132.64 in the format.

Jonathan Wells: Scored 69 when these teams last met and started this season’s Big Bash League as he left off the last one, with another half-century. It was his seventh in the format, in which he now has more than 1,500 runs from 69 innings.

Jake Weatherald: Forged a useful partnership with Carey at the top of the order and, after arriving at this tournament in good first-class form, he continued that in the shorter format with 42 in the opening game.

ADS Team Form

Adelaide Strikers’ first match of the 2019-20 season came to an early end due to smog from the Australian bushfires. Adelaide had scored 161/5 against Sydney Thunder, led by Jonathan Wells’ 55* from 32 balls. Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey scored 42 and 45 respectively. In reply, however, the Thunder’s innings was curtailed at 40/1 from 4.2 over

Wicket-keeper(s)

Alex Carey comes in at ten credits for the Strikers compared to just eight credits for Josh Inglis, but the Australia wicket-keeper-batsman is a key player and has made a strong start to the tournament too.

Batsmen

Jake Weatherald and Jonathan Wells are, with Carey, key parts of the Strikers’ batting line-up. Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner both being available is a big boost for the Scorchers, meanwhile. At the top of the order, meanwhile, Liam Livingstone will be hoping to hit his stride sooner rather than later.

All-rounders

Mitchell Marsh has already done that. He is 9.5 credits but he is in great form after two big innings already. Chris Green is at the other end of the pricing scale and is just eight credits.

Bowlers

That leaves three spaces in the bowling department, with Chris Jordan already in excellent form having claimed four wickets so far. He is nine credits and Rashid Khan comes in at 9.5 credits, but the two international stars are hard to ignore. It only leaves eight credits, however – not enough for Fawad Ahmed at 8.5 credits. Joel Paris is eight credits, and made a wicket-taking impact in his first game last time out.

Captain/vice-captain

Chris Jordan has started the 2019-20 Big Bash League with four wickets in two games and looks a good choice for captain as a result. Mitchell Marsh’s best form has come with the bat, but his consistency and the fact he can also turn his arm makes him a tempting choice for vice-captain too.

PRS Team News

Joel Paris replaced Matthew Kelly last time out and took a wicket – albeit he was also expensive. The Scorchers have a full complement of players with Cameron Bancroft one of the notable absentees from the current Australia test squad.

PRS Key Players

Liam Livingstone: The Lancastrian now has more than 2,000 T20 runs and arrives off the back of a stint with Cape Town Blitz in the MSL. He still has a T20 strike rate of 139.45 too.

Mitchell Marsh: Started this year’s Big Bash League with scores of 32 and 56*. The latter was his eight T20 half-century, while he also scored one when these two teams last met.

Chris Jordan: The England all-rounder, key to their series success in New Zealand, has started this year’s tournament with 2-13 and 2-30 in the first two matches. It follows up his excellent form in the Abu Dhabi T10 League too.

PRS Team Form

Perth Scorchers opened this season’s Big Bash League with a heavy defeat to Sydney Sixers, after being bowled out for 131 on the way to an eight-wicket defeat. The Scorchers scored 196/7 in their second game, however – Mitchell Marsh hitting 56* and Cameron Bancroft 51 – before Chris Jordan and Fawad Ahmed took two wickets apiece to earn an 11-run win.
