The 19th edition of the Asian Games is ready to have Cricket as one of the sports. The Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 will have Men’s T20I competition with 15 teams and a total of 17 matches to take place at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field which is situated in the city of Hangzhou in China.

The top 4 teams from Asia - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are placed directly in the quarter finals round. They are seeded from the ICC T20I team rankings.

About Asian Games Men's T20I

The 19th edition of Asia’s multi-sport event - Asian Games is set to take place in September-October in Hangzhou, China. Cricket will be one of the 37 sports in the Asian Games 2023.

Asian Games Men’s T20I will feature 15 teams. The tournament will kick-off on 27th September and the final match will take place on 7th October, 2023 at Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have won the gold medal in Cricket in Asian Games before. The men’s Indian cricket team will be participating in the tournament for the first time and the BCCI will send a second-string team squad which will be led by top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.

4 teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been placed in the quarter finals already as they are the top 4 Asian teams in the ICC’s T20I team rankings.

A total of 15 nations will participate in the Men’s T20I cricket tournament in the Hangzhou Asian Games. Top 4 teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been seeded from the ICC T20I teams rankings. The rest 11 teams will play the group stage round and these top 4 teams will qualify straight to the quarter finals.

Asian Games Cricket Men's T20I 2023 Format

The Asian Games Cricket will follow the T20I format for the gameplay in which each side gets 20 overs and a single goes on for approx. 3 hours.

Coming to the tournament format, there will be 15 teams out of which 4 teams have been given the ticket straight to the quarter finals.

After the end of the group stage, the top team from each group will advance to the quarter finals to face the top teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The winners of the 4 quarter finals will advance to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals will decide the 2 finalists who will face each other on 7th October to win the gold medal. The runner-up team will be awarded the silver medal.

The 2 losing teams from the semi-finals will fight each other for the bronze medal on 7th October.
