West Indies vs New Zealand 1st ODI Match Prediction & Betting Tips
Get to Know Who will win WI vs NZ 1st ODI match and toss Prediction with Head to Head stats, Playing 11, Dream11 Prediction, Betting Rates, Live score & winning percentage.
Shai Hope scored 115 against India in his 100th ODI at the Queen’s Park Oval last month and the opener is our pick for West Indies’ highest run scorer in this game. We are backing Akeal Hosein to be West Indies’ top wicket taker in this ODI. He has a strong record in this format and should get plenty of assistance from the pitch.
Kane Williamson averages 47.48 in this format and has hit 13 centuries since making his debut in 2010. The captain is a strong choice for New Zealand’s highest run scorer on Wednesday. With the ball, our tip to be top wicket taker is left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult. He is equally as effective at the start, middle and end of the innings and has excellent control.
We recommend backing Shai Hope to score over 56.5 runs

After ending their IT20 series on Sunday in Sabina Park, Jamaica, West Indies and New Zealand begin their three-match ODI series at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on Wednesday afternoon. West Indies lost their most recent series in this format 3-0 at home to India last month. New Zealand beat Scotland in their last ODI. Read on as we preview this day-night game. The ODI begins at 14:00 local time.
After losing the first two IT20s, West Indies restored a bit of pride by winning Sunday’s last game. However, they have a very poor ODI record and are playing against one of the best teams in this format in this match.
New Zealand are on a winning streak which has lasted for over two years in this format. They were too strong for Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands last month but this will be a much tougher test.

WI vs NZ Match Toss Prediction
The team batting second has won five of the last seven ODIs at this venue and we predict that both captains will want to field first if they win the toss ahead of this match.
WI vs NZ Pitch Report
This wicket generally provides more for the spin and slower bowlers rather than the pacers. Any score over 280-290 will be tough to chase down.
Weather Report
There could be the odd shower around the start of the game but we expect dry and fine conditions for the rest of the match with the temperature peaking at 31 degrees.

West Indies Team News & Playing 11
WI Team News
After being rested for the final IT20 on Sunday, we expect skipper Nicholas Pooran to come back and lead the team in this game. There is no place in the squad for Rovman Powell or Romario Shepherd with Roston Chase ruled out through injury.
WI Key Players
Shai Hope - the opener takes on the vice-captaincy as well as the wicket keeping duties in this series. He averages 49.58 after 101 ODIs.
Brandon King - The top order batter has struggled with his fitness this summer but has been one of West Indies’ most consistent batters when available. He hit 53 runs from 35 balls against the New Zealand attack on Sunday.
Akeal Hosein - The left arm spinner has taken wickets in 22 of his 26 ODIs since making his debut in January 2021. His best figures in this format are 4-39 against Netherlands earlier this year.
WI Team Form
West Indies have lost their last nine ODIs with defeats against India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
There was no room for sentimentality or handing out caps to new players in the final IT20 with only Trent Boult rested. This series could be slightly different with still over a year until the ODI World Cup but we expect the Black Caps to put out their strongest XI for this opener.
NZ Key Players
Kane Williamson - The skipper has only played two ODIs since the World Cup Final defeat, via a Superover, in 2019. However, he is an all-format player and will be looking forward to batting again in this game.
Lockie Ferguson - There are some doubts as to whether Ferguson has the fitness to be able to fire in the T20 World Cup, so this series will give him the opportunity to show that he can deliver with the white ball in a longer format.
Trent Boult - The opening bowler is one wicket away from bringing up his 550th wicket for New Zealand. Only Richard Hadlee, Tim Southee and Daniel Vettori have more.
NZ Team Form
The Black Caps have won their last 10 games in this format. Their last ODI defeat came against Australia in mid-March 2020.
New Zealand Predicted Playing 11
Martin Guptill, Devon Conway (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

West Indies vs New Zealand Head to Head
Although West Indies lead New Zealand 30-28 in this format, the Black Caps have had much the better of the most recent games. West Indies have won only one of the last nine ODIs, a run which stretches back to December 2013.

WI vs NZ Top Team Batsmen
With the bat, we are backing Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King for West Indies. Pooran is one of the cleanest hitters in the West Indian side and the skipper will have benefited from missing the final IT20.
Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Devon Conway are our batting picks for New Zealand. Conway has only played three ODIs but has already scored a century and a fifty.
Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein and Jayden Seales are our tips for West Indies with the ball. Joseph has 82 ODI wickets at an average of 27.60.
Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee are our bowling recommendations for New Zealand. Southee has played 143 ODIs with his best figures in this format 7-33.
West Indies showed plenty of character to get the win in the final IT20 and, although there are some different players in this side, they will need to find the same spirit if they are to trouble New Zealand in this opening ODI. The hosts pushed India close in this format last month and we expect the same in this game but are predicting a win for New Zealand.
