Lions are favourites to win
Western Province will take on Lions at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. Match 26 of the CSA T20 Challenge gets underway at 18:00 local time on Monday, October 31st.
Two points above bottom of the table North West, Western Province have had a tough start to this tournament and are on only six points from six matches. Their only win came over North West in Match 19 on Thursday in Potchefstroom.
George Linde was the only Western Province batter to go beyond nine runs in the defeat to Dolphins on Saturday. The experienced left-handed batter hit 30 runs from 33 balls but scored only one four and one six. He is their highest run scorer with 131 runs,
Dolphins made easy work of the Western Province bowling attack in the last game. Keegan Petersen was dismissed for a five ball duck but Grant Roelofsen had no problems and finished unbeaten on 29 from 30 balls. Tshepo Moreki is the leading wicket taker for Western Province with combined tournament figures of 7-103.
Western Province have won one match from six games in this campaign.
Although they have played a game less and have a better net-run-rate, Lions are level on points with Western Province with one win from five matches. They have lost only one of their last three matches but that came against Dolphins on Wednesday.
Lions should have been able to post more than their impressive score of 163-6 against Dolphins, particularly as they were 137-2 with 20 balls remaining. Their top four batters scored between 27 and 42 with Mitchell van Buuren hitting four fours and a six in his innings.
Lions were capable of taking only one wicket in Match 17 with medium pacer Codi Yusuf dismissing Grant Roelofsen for 44 runs from 40 balls. Yusuf had dismissed only one other player in the tournament and leading wicket taker Lutho Sipamla missed the game. We expect Sipamla to be back for this game.
Lions have won only one match from five games so far in this campaign.
The match will be played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. Spinners have had more joy as the competition has progressed and we expect the top spinners to rival the top pace bowlers in this game.
