Betting Tips

  • Both sides struggled with the bat in the first innings of the first Test before finding the going a lot easier the second time around. For West Indies, Nkrumah Bonner scored his maiden Test century and at the same time became only the third player in Test history to make a score of 75+ in each of his first three games. Kyle Mayers also continued his impressive start to Test cricket with scores of 45 and 52.
  • For Sri Lanka, it was debutant Pathum Nissanka who became the 108th Test batsman to score a ton on debut. He is the fourth Sri Lankan to do this and the first to do so in an overseas Test. Opener Lahiru Thirimanne also impressed with scores of 70 and 76.
  • After the first two days, bowling became a real struggle at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Jason Holder and Suranga Lakmal both took five wicket hauls in the first innings but nothing in the second. Kemar Roach provided consistency and took three wickets in both Sri Lanka innings.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Prediction & Betting Tips

Sri Lanka meet West Indies for the final time after a miserable tour which has seen them lose the ODI series 3-0 and the T20I series 2-1. However, after the sides played out a draw in the first Test in Antigua last week, the visitors have the opportunity to end the tour with a victory in the second and final Test to take the Test series 1-0. Read as we preview this Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka. The match will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and will get underway at 10:00 local time.

Sri Lanka began day five of the first Test requiring nine wickets for victory but never looked like getting close. They were only able to take three wickets as Bonner and Mayers were able to soak up ball after ball. This wasn’t necessarily a criticism of the Sri Lanka bowling though as West Indies had toiled for the two days previous as well.

The hosts will take confidence from batting out the final day with such ease but will be disappointed that they found themselves having to do so after they had a lead of 102 runs after the first innings. Both sides showed the ability and determination to bat long periods and, unless this pitch deteriorates quicker than in the first Test, we may well see another draw in Antigua.

WI vs SL Toss Prediction

As has become customary at this venue, we expect whichever captain who wins the toss will elect to field.

Pitch Report

As with the first Test, the pitch will do the most for the bowlers on days one and two. In the interests of seeing a result, it would be great to see the pitch offer some quicker spin as the game progresses.

Weather Report

It will be hot, although partly cloudy, across the five days of this game. Highs of 28 with the odd shower around.

West Indies Team News & Playing 11

WI Team News

West Indies have a 13 man squad to choose from and should keep faith with the same team from the first Test. Vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood disappointed with the bat making only 6 runs and Shannon Gabriel went wicketless but we expect to see the same XI selected.

WI Key Players

  • Kyle Mayers - the man bats with a real West Indian swagger seen in other left-handers like Viv Richards and Brian Lara. In West Indies’ first innings he was the only one of the batsmen to find any fluency in troubling batting conditions. He’ll be looking to turn his two starts in the first Test into a maiden three figure score at home.

  • Jason Holder - the all-rounder enjoyed his first Test as a mere player after being relieved of the captaincy only weeks before. He now has eight 5-wicket hauls in his career in this format and, although he didn’t pick up a wicket in the Sri Lanka second innings, he was very economical and was treated with the utmost respect by the batsmen.

  • Rahkeem Cornwall - West Indies’ premier spinner also showed his worth with the bat in last week’s Test, top scoring with 61 in the first innings. He took 4 wickets across the match and will no doubt be asked to bowl many overs if the conditions aren’t conducive for the pace bowlers.

WI Team Form

The draw in the first Test ended West Indies recent home run of three successive big defeats. They will take confidence from batting out the final day when previous sides would have crumbled. Overall, they are in a positive place after the victories in the other formats against Sri Lanka.

West Indies Predicted Playing 11

Kraigg Brathwaite (c) , John Campbell, Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Jason Holder, Rahkeem Cornwall, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel

Sri Lanka Team News & Playing 11

SL Team News

After being bowled out for 169 inside the first day of the first Test, Sri Lanka showed an enormous amount of character and fight to turn the game around and put themselves in the driving seat over the final days. This Test gives them the opportunity to arrest a poor run in this format which has seen them win only one series in the last six.

SL Key Players

  • Dimuth Karunaratne - the captain struggled to impose himself with the bat during the first Test, registering scores of only 12 and 3. Sri Lanka will need him to find his form quickly so they can build a foundation at the top of the order for the rest of the innings.
  • Lahiru Thirimanne - averaging 45.62 in this format this year, Thirimanne is the batsman in form for Sri Lanka. However, he wasn’t able to turn either of his 70+ scores into centuries. He only has two Test tons in 39 matches, a stat which must improve if his country are to become a force in Test cricket again.
  • Suranga Lakmal - the experienced pace bowler showed his worth to the side in West Indies’ first innings, taking 5-47 including the wickets of Brathwaite, Mayers, Blackwood and Holder. He only went at 1.32 an over in the fourth innings of the game and sent down 10 maidens.

SL Team Form

Sri Lanka ended the first Test with mixed emotions after beginning poorly, bouncing back strongly with the bat, but ultimately failing to complete the victory. This match gives them the chance to not only return home from the Caribbean with something to show for their efforts but also to end a run of only one Test victory in their last ten games.

Sri Lanka Predicted Playing 11

Dimuth Karunaratne (c) , Lahiru Thirimanne, Oshada Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya Da Silva, Pathum Nissanka, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Embluldeniya, Asitha Fernando, Dushmantha Chameera

West Indies vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Top Team Batsmen

Brathwaite, Bonner and Mayers will be the batsmen we’ll back from West Indies. Although they have both only played three Tests, Bonner and Mayers have shown the mindset and techniques in home and away conditions to suggest they will both flourish at this level.

For Sri Lanka we’ve gone for experience in Karunaratne, Chandimal and Thirimanne as the top batsmen. Dinesh Chandimal has been out of form for a while but still has a huge weight of runs to fall back on and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn it around.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Top Team Bowlers

The most impressive members of the West Indies bowling attack were Holder, Roach and Cornwall in the first Test and we’ve backed all three of them here.

For Sri Lanka our choices are Embuldeniya, Lakmal and Chameera. Lakmal will again look to extract the most out of the surface in the early stages of the game.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka Prediction

We predict another close game in Antigua where it will be interesting to see if inexperienced players at this level like Bonner, Mayers and Nissanka continue to flourish. Ultimately, if there is to be a winner, we think West Indies’ greater penetration with the ball from Roach and Holder could be where the game is won and lost. We are going for a West Indies victory to complete a clean sweep across all formats against Sri Lanka.

Final Verdict

West Indies are favorites to win against Sri Lanka. Back West Indies to beat Sri Lanka at 1.86

WI vs SL Dream11 Prediction

  • Wicket Keeper

Niroshan Dickwella (8.5) and Joshua Da Silva (8) are our wicket keepers. Both made important runs during the middle innings of the first Test.

  • Batsmen

Dimuth Karunaratne (9.5), Lahiru Thirimanne (9) and Nkrumah Bonner (8.5) will be our batsmen. Bonner and Thirimanne are in exceptional form and it can’t be long before Karunaratne starts posting big numbers at the top of the order again.

  • All rounder

we couldn’t resist Dhananjaya Da Silva (9.5), Jason Holder (9) and Kyle Mayers (8.5) in our team. Holder was exceptional with the ball, Dhananjaya made a half-century and Mayers took wickets and scored runs in last week’s game.

  • Bowlers

Lasith Embuldeniya (9), Kemar Roach (9) and Suranga Lakmal (8.5) complete the line up as our bowlers. Roach and Lakmal both bowled like the experienced men they are in the first Test and Embuldeniya will have benefited from his first game in this format in the Caribbean.

  • Captain /Vice Captain

Nkrumah Bonner will be our skipper while Jason Holder can be backed as his deputy

WI vs SL Dream11 Team Prediction

  • Batsmen:Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nkrumah Bonner (c)

  • All Rounder:Dananjaya Da Silva, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers

  • Wicket Keeper:Niroshan Dickwella, Joshua Da Silva
