There was a surprise defeat for the table toppers UAE in their final group stage match as they were beaten by Bahrain by 3 runs on Friday. However, it could be just what the side needed ahead of this winner takes all clash as they had not really been tested up to this point.
Once again, Muhammad Waseem top scored for UAE in Friday’s loss and he will be the key wicket in the UAE batting line-up in this final. He has scored 100 runs more than anyone else in the tournament already and very few bowlers have made him look uncomfortable at the crease across the five games so far.
The UAE also have the leading wicket taker in the tournament and in Ali Naseer they have a right-arm medium fast bowler who is looking to maintain his record of at least one wicket in every game in the competition in this final. Overall, the UAE bowlers need to improve on their performance on Friday when they picked up only 5 wicket.
UAE‘s winning run in this tournament came to an end with their sloppy performance on Friday.
Aryansh Sharma (wk), Muhammad Waseem (c), Vriitya Aravind, Asif Khan, Ali Naseer, Basil Hameed, Nilansh Keswani, Mohammed Faraazuddin, Zahoor Khan, Muhammad Jawadullah, Akif Raja
A strong run of form from Aqib Ilyas’ side was enough to get Oman through to this final of the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship on Saturday. They beat Kuwait by 68 runs on Friday but were easily beaten by UAE when they met in the group stage.
Friday’s victory was setup by some aggressive batting from the majority of Oman’s line-up against Kuwait and we expect the batters to take a similar approach in this match. Opener keeper-batter Naseem Khushi will be looking to follow his innings of three sixes against Kuwait with an equally attacking mindset in this final.
There can be no doubt that Oman’s bowlers will come into Saturday’s game with confidence after they restricted Kuwait to 103-9 with eight different bowlers used. The opening pair of Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Fhan were particularly impressive and Oman will need them to be just as accurate in this final.
Oman began the tournament with two defeats from three but ended the group stage with three wins from four.
Kashyap Prajapati, Naseem Khushi (wk), Aqib Ilyas (c), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Rafiullah, Mohammad Nadeem, Mehran Khan, Shakeel Ahmed, Fayyaz Butt, Bilal Khan
Ahead of Friday’s fixtures, very few pundits would have expected anything other than a comfortable win in the final for UAE. However, Oman were very impressive on Friday and UAE produced their worst showing with both bat and ball. So we are predicting a close game but we expect Muhammad Waseem to be the difference and for UAE to win.
