Nepal have won the toss in three of the four games between the two teams on this tour, electing to field first last time out. The UAE are due to win a toss, therefore, and will probably also look to chase.
Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for United Arab Emirates vs Nepal, 2nd T20.
With Rohan Mustafa, Ahmed Raza and Rameez Shahzad suspended due to comments they made on social media, Mohammad Naveed is leading the team. After a good all-round performance to win the first game in this series, they could be unchanged for the second game.
Shaiman Anwar scored a century in the series against Papua New Guinea and continued his good T20 international form with 59 from 38 balls as the UAE won the first match. He hit five fours and two sixes in his innings and now has 847 runs in his T20 international career – more than any other Emirati international.
With the ball, Mohammad Naveed claimed 2-19 from his four overs to prove his worth. He was also the top wicket-taker in the Everest Premier League before Christmas, in Nepal, and has played in franchise tournaments across the globe.
Sultan Ahmed (2-26) and Zahoor Khan (2-17) also chipped in with two wickets apiece, while Amir Hayat continued his own wicket-taking form with 1-34. He also took 2-26 against Australia in October and claimed six wickets in the ODI series against Nepal.
Victory in the first match was the UAE’s first in three T20 matches, but the last two were against Australia and New Zealand in October. The former was granted official status, whereas the latter was viewed purely as a warm-up game. Against Australia, the UAE posted 117/6 from 20 overs and lost by seven wickets, while against New Zealand they came up 37 runs short in reply to 161/4.
They had previously won all five games in Kuwait in the Western Sub Region section of the ICC World Twenty20 Asian Qualifier. They then beat Qatar in the final as Zahoor Khan took 3-16 with the ball and Ghulam Shabber hit 63 from 46 balls to lead them to a nine-wicket win.
Against Nepal, it was Shaiman Anwar who was their top run scorer, hitting 59, before Mohammad Naveed led the bowling with 2-19 as they restricted Nepal to 132/7 in reply to 153/6.

While their squad was unchanged from the ODI series, Nepal made several tweaks to the line-up for the first T20 match and may revert back to some of the players who helped earn victory in the longer format for the second game. Binod Bhandari and Aarif Sheikh were among those to miss out. Among the players to come in, Sandeep Jora scored an unbeaten half-century and Basant Regmi took two wickets – both are likely to retain their places.
Coming into this series, Sandeep Lamichhane was the best-known Nepalese international after stints in some of the biggest franchise T20 tournaments. He started this series with 2-25 from his four overs, while Basant Regmi claimed 2-23 as the Nepalese spinners impressed first up.
Sompal Kami continued the good all-round form he showed in the ODI series, meanwhile. He took 1-16 from three overs in UAE’s innings and then hit 27 from 19 balls down the order during the reply.
Paras Khadka – their captain and match-winner with the bat in the third ODI – scored 25 at the top of the order, while Sandeep Jora hit an unbeaten half-century (53* from 46 balls) but it was not enough to lead Nepal to victory.
Nepal’s most recent T20 matches were in the ICC World Twenty20 Asian Eastern Sub Regional Qualifier, which like the UAE in the west region, they won with little drama. Sandeep Lamichhane claimed plenty of wickets as Nepal thrashed China, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Bhutan.
They then geared up for this series with ODI series victory – Paras Khadka scoring Nepal’s first ODI century to lead them to victory in the decisive third game, after Sompal Kami had earlier taken their first ever ODI five-wicket haul to level the series in the second match.
Gyanendra Malla, Binod Bhandari, Paras Khadka, Pradeep Airee, Sundeep Jora, Aarif Sheikh, Rohit Paudel, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Basant Regmi
United Arab Emirates and Nepal had never previously met in a T20 international before Shaiman Anwar’s 38-ball 59 inspired the hosts to victory in the first game in this series. Anwar got man of the match for his batting, but Mohammad Naveed’s economical bowling and two wickets were also key – the captain taking 2-19 from four overs.
The United Arab Emirates, led by Shaiman Anwar’s batting and Mohammad Naveed’s bowling, put ODI series defeat behind them in the first T20, and they can seal a series win by winning the second game too.
