Sydney Thunder have a relatively new look line-up for BBL 2019/20 with lots of ins and outs. Fawad Ahmed, Jos Buttler, Joe Root, Patrick Cummins, Ryan Gibson, Liam Hatcher, Kurtis Patterson, Sam Rainbird, Shane Watson, Anton Devcich and Chris Jordan all depart with Brendan Doggett, Alex Ross, Chris Tremain, Oliver Davies, Alex Hales (of England) and Chris Morris all incoming. The changes look to have been very effective given that Sydney Thunder have won their opening two games and find themselves at the top of the table.
Captain Callum Ferguson is in form and will be one to look out for and classy batsman Usman Khawaja will add further steel to the top order. Chris Tremain, who has a great bowling economy and T20 specialist, Chris Green, will form the spearhead of Sydney Thunder’s attack.
Sydney Thunder finished 6th in the rankings in the last BBL and will be disappointed overall with their performances, having lost 7 of their 14 matches. However, they’ve made lots of changes to their line-up and are in top form this time around. Sydney Thunder have won their first two matches, beating Brisbane Heat by 29 runs and the Melbourne Renegades by 6 wickets with 2 balls remaining. They’re currently top of the table though they have played more matches than anyone else.

Since BBL 2018/19, Adelaide Strikers have lost Michael Cormack, David Grant, Colin Ingram, Ben Laughlin and brought in Harry Conway, Phil Salt, Cameron White. It’s a relatively low degree of player turnover compared to other BBL clubs and perhaps the continuity can help them on the pitch. They will however, be hoping for improved performances from their last outing, particularly in the batting department.
The Adelaide Striker’s star player would have to be spin bowler Rashid Khan. He took 19 wickets for the Strikers in the last BBL and Adelaide will be hoping for more of the same. He’ll be assisted by Peter Siddle, who bowled the best deliveries of his career last year.
Adelaide will be hoping that Jonathan Wells, their only real batting threat last campaign, will be able to recapture last year’s form. They’ve also brought in Phil Salt, who’s hit eight 50s in his T20 career, and Cameron White, who though he had a quiet campaign last Big Bash, is quite capable of hitting boundaries.
This is Adelaide’s first game of the BBL 2019/20 so there is no recent form with which to judge them. They’ll be hoping to improve upon last tournament’s performance as they finished second from bottom. They struggled with scoring runs last time out and will be hoping recent additions to their line-ups will improve their fortunes.
