There will be plenty of top international players on show in this game with both sides jam packed with star names. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders get their IPL campaigns underway on Sunday evening in Chennai. Both teams have been consistent over recent seasons, Sunrisers finishing in the top four in each of the last four IPLs and losing in the final to CSK in 2018. KKR haven’t dropped below 5th since 2013 but will be looking to improve on their successive 5th placed finishes in 2019 and 2020. Read on as we preview this clash of the 2021 IPL. On the other hand, KKR lost two successive games at the business end of the season, this rendered their 60 run win over Rajasthan Royals in the final group game as irrelevant as they were knocked out by virtue of net run-rate. Eoin Morgan will need his side to perform better in the crucial matches if they are to make the playoffs in 2021.

There are no weak teams in the IPL but Sunrisers Hyderabad are certainly one of the stronger ones.

David Warner - Many successful cricket teams have been built on the foundation of an abrasive Australian leader at the top of the order and Sunrisers have just the man in David Warner. He had a relatively quiet IPL last year, hitting only four half-centuries, a strong season for David Warner will equal a strong IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rashid Khan - The Afghan spinner has just lost his place at the top of the ICC T20I bowling rankings to South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi. Khan will be keen to show he is still the best in the business and build on his 75 wickets in four seasons with the Sunrisers.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar - IPL success is all about finding the right mix of international superstars alongside homegrown experts and Kumar certainly fits the latter. He only managed four appearances in last year’s IPL before injury struck so he will be like a new signing for this campaign.

Shakib Al Hasan - The Bangladesh all-rounder has joined Kolkata Knight Riders after two seasons playing under David Warner’s leadership at Sunrisers. He is one of the best players in the world, knows the conditions and will have a point to prove.
Eoin Morgan - leaders don’t come much calmer and cooler under pressure than England’s white ball captain. He has seen it all in this format and hit 418 runs in the 2020 IPL. You may be surprised to hear that he only scored one half century but all his runs come at the death meaning that each boundary is particularly crucial.
Pat Cummins - Australia’s premier bowler has contributed 27 wickets across the last two IPL seasons and will be looking to improve on his return of 12 scalps in 2020. No mug with the bat, he also hit a half-century and will be expected to chip in with valuable runs again at the bottom of the order.

Any team under the leadership of Brendan McCullum and Eoin Morgan is not going to be satisfied with consecutive fifth placed finishes. However, the form table doesn’t lie and KKR need to snap out of mediocrity if they are to become a force.
