Who Will Win Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI?

After their disappointing campaigns in the recently concluded World Cup, both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will look to put it all behind them and start afresh as the Lankans welcome the tigers for a three-match ODI series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The first one-day international will be played on July 26 with live telecast scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM local time.

The Sri Lankan team will be viewing this series as an opportunity to rebuild and test their bench strength. The hosts would also want to give a fitting farewell to their legendary pace bowler Lasith Malinga who is all set to retire after this match. The tourists, on the other hand, will be viewing this as an opportunity to create history by securing their first ever ODI series win against Sri Lanka.

SL vs Ban Weather Report

A few showers and thunderstorms are expected on Friday and there is a good chance of the match being reduced and DLS method coming into play. Temperature should be around 28-29 degrees Celsius and humidity between 80 and 84%.

SL vs Ban Pitch Condition

The R. Premadasa Stadium has offered good batting conditions in the recent past and the team batting first here has scored over 280 four times in the last five ODIs. The pitch has generally been conducive to spin bowling.

SL vs Ban Toss Prediction

Four of the last five one-day internationals played at this ground have been won by the side batting first. But given the weather conditions, fast bowlers could get plenty of movement off the pitch early on which is why the toss-winning captain may choose to bowl first.

Sri Lanka Team News & Playing 11

SL Team News

Veteran pace bowler and one of Sri Lanka's leading wicket-takers in ODIs - Lasith Malinga - is set to retire from the format after playing this opening match of the series. All-rounder Dasun Shanaka, who has been included in the team's 17-man squad, will join the team from the second game after replacing Malinga. The selectors have not picked Lakshan Sandakan, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka who were all part of the World Cup squad. Dimuth Karunaratne will continue to lead the Sri Lankan team.

SL Key Players

Kusal Perera: The wicketkeeper struck three half-centuries in the World Cup and finished as the leading run-getter for Sri Lanka with 273 runs. He is likely to open the batting with skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and will look to take the team off to a good start.

Lasith Malinga: The fast bowler has been one of the best bowlers for Sri Lanka in ODIs and is the third-highest wicket-taker in this format at this ground. He was also the team's most successful bowler in the World Cup with 13 wickets. Malinga will be playing the last ODI of his career and he will certainly want to make it a memorable one.

Dhananjaya de Silva: He has four ODI half-centuries under his belt and is a vital cog in the team's middle-order batting. Dhananjaya also has 20 ODI wickets to his name and he will have a big role to play with the ball in the middle overs.

SL Recent Form

Sri Lanka had a tough time in the World Cup which concluded just a couple of weeks ago. They failed to make it past the league round and finished sixth on the points table with three wins, four losses and two washouts from their nine matches. The only big positive for Sri Lanka in that tournament was their 20-run victory against the eventual champions England at Leeds.

Sri Lanka Predicted Playing 11

Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Kusal Perera (wk), Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Mathews, Akila Dananjaya/Kasun Rajitha, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Nuwan Pradeep, Lasith Malinga

SL vs BAN Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Our SL vs Ban Dream11 team is biased towards the home team. We have picked seven Sri Lankan players and four Bangladeshi players because we feel that there will be more good individual performances from Sri Lanka.

Wicketkeeper

It is not common to see multiple wicketkeepers in a Dream11 team but the class and current form of Kusal Perera and Mushfiqur Rahim has forced us to include them both. Perera and Mushfiqur were impressive with the bat for their respective sides in the World Cup and they can be picked at 9 and 11 credits respectively.

Batsmen

Avishka Fernando and Angelo Mathews are the two Sri Lankan batsmen while Mahmudullah is the lone Bangladeshi batsman to feature on our team. Fernando, who is available at 8.5 credits, was very impressive in the World Cup where he made three significant contributions in his four innings. Mathews and Mahmudullah can be picked at 9.5 credits each.

All-rounders

We have picked Thisara Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva as the all-rounders who are being offered at 8.5 and 9 credits respectively. Perera has the ability to add some quick runs down the order and can strike with the ball at key moments in the game. Dhananjaya will bat in the middle order and will have more run-scoring opportunities.

Bowlers

Lasith Malinga was the standout performer with the ball for Sri Lanka in the World Cup and he will look to bid adieu to ODI cricket in style on Friday. He can be picked at 9 credits, the same as Mustafizur Rahman who will be threatening with the new ball, especially if Bangladesh get to bowl first. Rubel Hossain and Nuwan Pradeep are the other two bowlers in our team who are available at 8.5 credits each.

Captain

We have picked Lasith Malinga as the captain of our Dream11 team.

Vice-captain

Kusal Perera is the vice-captain of our team.

Bangladesh Team News & Playing 11

BAN Team News

Bangladesh have received set-backs in the form of injuries ahead of the opening ODI with skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour due to hamstring and back injury respectively. Batsman Farhad Reza has been called up as a replacement for Mortaza while Saifuddin has been replaced by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. Tamim Iqbal will be in charge of the team. The Bangladeshi selectors, on Tuesday, also added pacer Shafiul Islam to the squad. Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das have been rested for this tour.

BAN Key Players

Mushfiqur Rahim: He was one of Bangladesh's best batsmen in the World Cup, scoring 367 runs (including a century and two fifties) at an average of 52.42. The wicketkeeper even struck a fifty in Tuesday's warm-up game against Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI.

Mustafizur Rahman: The left-arm fast bowler was amongst the top five bowlers in the World Cup where he picked 20 wickets. He has claimed a fifer in each of his last two ODIs - against India and Pakistan - and will look to rock Sri Lanka's top-order early on.

Mahmudullah: The all-rounder has three centuries in addition to 21 half-centuries in the 50-over format and has a pretty decent average of 34.57. He is one of the leading ODI run-scorers for Bangladesh and has taken 76 wickets with his off-spin.

BAN Recent Form

Bangladesh, like Sri Lanka, did not have a memorable World Cup as they managed to win just three out of their nine fixtures to finish eighth in the standings. They made a promising start to their campaign by stunning South Africa but lost their way thereafter, suffering three defeats in their next four completed matches. Bangladesh played their final league game against Pakistan at London which they lost by 94 runs.

Bangladesh Predicted Playing 11

Tamim Iqbal (c), Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Head to Head

Sri Lanka have won 36 while Bangladesh have won only 7 out of the 43 completed one-day internationals that have been played between the two countries.

Bangladesh, however, registered a comprehensive 137-run victory when they last played a completed match against Sri Lanka in the game's 50-over format - in the Asia Cup last year at Dubai.

Sri Lanka have never lost to Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa in ODIs; the two teams have met six times here and the hosts have won on all six occasions.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Betting Odds

Sri Lanka are favorites at 1.70 with Betway, 1.72 with Bet365 and 1.71 with Betrally to win this first one-day international. Bangladesh begin as underdogs amongst the bookmakers and they have been priced at 2.10 on Betway, Betrally and Bet365.

🏆 Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Prediction

Sri Lanka have the advantage of playing in their own conditions and they have done pretty well at the R. Premadasa in the recent past having won five of their last eight ODIs. In fact, the hosts have never lost to Bangladesh at this venue in the fifty-over format. The visitors will gain confidence from the fact that they dominated the Lankans in last year's Asia Cup and beat Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI in a warm-up game two days ago. However, they have not arrived with a full-strength squad - Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin are out with injuries while Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das are on leave. This means Bangladesh won't be playing their best eleven which tips the scales further in favor of Sri Lanka.
