Netherlands are favorites to win
As they plot their route through the play-offs, this could be a crucial final group fixture between Scotland and the Netherlands in Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier. The two teams meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 27, and the live action begins at 14:10 local time.
Scotland’s result will have a big bearing on their play-off position, given they need a win to ensure a place in the semi-final play-off, as opposed to the fifth-place play-off. The former gives two chances to reach the World Cup, the latter means their T20 World Cup hopes would be over with just one defeat.
For the Netherlands, they made a strong start to the tournament but defeat to Papua New Guinea could ultimately cost them top spot irrespective of this result. It halted their momentum and they will want to beat Scotland to reach the play-offs in top form – even if it does not immediately bring the reward of T20 World Cup qualification.

Both teams have had a good run of fortune with the toss, but this is a match where it could really matter. Batting first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has definitely been profitable.
The forecast has barely changed all through this tournament and it will be the same again for the final day of group fixtures – very hot, very dry, and very sunny.
The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is an excellent pitch for batting on, though teams batting first have tended to fare better than those batting second so far.

Kyle Coetzer returned against Bermuda, having missed the costly defeat to Namibia. Ollie Hairs also returned as Michael Leask and Craig Wallace dropped back out. Josh Davey was replaced by Alasdair Evans against Bermuda, but he is likely to return against the Netherlands after some excellent bowling so far.
Calum MacLeod: Scored his 1000th run in T20 international cricket last time out and passed 3,000 international runs for Scotland too on his way to 74 from 37 balls last time out. Apart from a duck against Papua New Guinea he has batted well – scoring 44, 30, 39 and 74 in his other four innings.
Josh Davey: Rested last time out but set to return after taking two wickets in each of the four matches he has played so far. He has kept things generally tidy too, with figures of 2-26, 2-25, 2-23 and 2-29.
George Munsey: Back to his best last time out, hammering 51 at the top of the order against Bermuda. It was his first half-century of the tournament, after he warmed up for it by hitting 86 against Ireland, before scoring 46 in the first game.
Scotland had to bounce back from defeat to Namibia by beating Bermuda last time out. Against Namibia, without captain Kyle Coetzer, they conceded 159/6 and could only reach 135/8 in reply – their second defeat of the group stage.
But they put in a top batting performance against Bermuda, as Calum MacLeod (74) and George Munsey (51) helped them to 204/4, before they restricted the Bermudans to 158/8 in reply.

When Colin Ackermann returned from injury, Fred Klaassen was the man to make way and the Dutch may be reconsidering the balance of their team as they come up against Scotland in their final match of the group stage.
Paul van Meekeren: Took eight wickets in the first three games and will be a key man as the Netherlands try to nullify the runs of Scotland’s big hitters.
Roelof van der Merwe: The experienced all-rounder finished the Oman Pentangular Series with an unbeaten half-century but it has been all about his slow left-arm bowling since the former South African international started this tournament. He took seven in the first four games.
Max O’Dowd: The Dutch opener has been in consistent form with the bat for some time now in T20 internationals, form he has appeared to carry with him into this tournament.
The Netherlands were far too good for Namibia and Singapore as they bowled them out for 96 and 101 respectively to move to three consecutive wins, but the defeat to Papua New Guinea could be what costs them first place in this group.
Their batting simply fell short, despite Timm van der Gugten hitting some late sixes to lift them from 74/7 in the 15th over to 126/7 from their 20 overs. In reply, however, the Barras grabbed a five-wicket win with an over to spare. The Dutch had the chance to bounce back against Bermuda in their next match.

Only Ireland have played Scotland more times in T20 internationals than the Netherlands have, which is unsurprising really given the position all three hold in European cricket. This will be the 13th T20i meeting between Scotland and the Netherlands, and the Scots have seven wins from the previous 12. Most recently, they beat them twice at the Ireland Tri-Nation Series – posting 252/3 thank to George Munsey’s 127* in the first of those, on their way to a 58-run win. In the second game, Hamza Tahir’s four-wicket haul helped bowl the Dutch out for 123 and Scotland won by six wickets.

Scotland have been hit and miss so far at this tournament, while the Netherlands showed their best form early on. The Dutch can secure a win to move into the play-offs with real momentum.
Final Verdict: Back Netherlands to beat Scotland.
