South Africa Team News & Playing 11

SA Team News

South Africa might consider bringing in Aiden Markram who has not featured in a single game in this ODI series. In order to make room for Markram, the Proteas may decide to rest Hashim Amla considering his hectic schedule in the recent past. Since the pitch at the Newlands has been conducive to spin bowling, the home team might also consider replacing fast bowler Beuran Hendricks with left-arm chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi. The rest of the South African line-up is expected to remain unchanged.

SA Key Players

Hashim Amla is the second-highest run-getter in the series and he will be one of South Africa's key batsmen if he plays on Wednesday. The opener has hit a century and a half-century in the series and he also has a couple of ODI fifties at the Newlands. Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks have also weighed in with useful contributions and so has skipper Faf du Plessis who scored 57 in the last match. Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlukwayo and Imran Tahir have been the go-to men for the Proteas in this ODI series. Phehlukwayo is leading the wickets charts with six wickets. The pacer claimed 4-22 at Durban and he will look to deliver a similar performance at Cape Town. Rabada and Tahir both have eight wickets apiece at this ground from four and five ODIs respectively. Tahir could be a bigger threat here with the wicket expected to have plenty in it for the spinners.

SA Recent Form

After the heavy defeat in the last game at Johannesburg, South Africa now have seven wins and three losses in their last ten one-day internationals. They have won two and lost as many out of the four ODIs they have played so far this year. The Proteas had a terrible day with the bat in the previous match where they failed to play out their quota of 50 overs and were bundled out for just 164.

South Africa Predicted Playing 11

Quinton de Kock (wk), Hashim Amla/Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks, Faf du Plessis (c), Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn, Beuran Hendricks/Tabraiz Shamsi, Imran Tahir

Pakistan Team News & Playing 11

PAK Team News

Shoaib Malik will continue to lead the Pakistan team in place of regular captain Sarfraz Ahmed who has been suspended by the ICC for four international games due to the racial comments he made during the third ODI at Centurion. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was drafted into the playing eleven as Sarfraz's replacement in the last game. After a clinical performance at the Wanderers, Pakistan will be tempted to go in with an unchanged side. However, they might leave out Shaheen Afridi and give Hasan Ali a game instead.

PAK Key Players

With a century and two fifties, Imam-ul-Haq is currently the leading run-scorer in the series with 263 runs. The opening batsman is coming off an impressive knock of 71 at the Wanderers and he definitely holds the key for Pakistan when it comes to batting. Babar Azam is averaging 57 in the series and he too has been amongst the runs while Fakhar Zaman seems to have returned to form with a run-a-ball 44 in the last game. Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim will be the ones to watch out for with the ball on this spin-friendly Newlands track. Shadab has been very impressive so far with five wickets in the series and that too at a healthy economy of 5. South Africa will also be wary of left-arm pace bowler Usman Khan who ripped through their batting line-up last time and finished with outstanding figures of 4-35 from seven overs.

PAK Recent Form

The eight-wicket victory in the last game was Pakistan's fourth win in their last ten completed one-day internationals. After winning the opening game of the series at Port Elizabeth, the visitors suffered back-to-back defeats at Durban and Centurion respectively but have bounced back strongly with a resounding win at Johannesburg to square the series. Pakistan dominated with both bat and ball last time and this will give them a huge confidence boost ahead of the series decider.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik (c), Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi/Hasan Ali

South Africa vs Pakistan Head to Head

South Africa and Pakistan have now played 76 one-day internationals against each other with the former winning 49 of those and the latter 27.

South Africa have faced Pakistan five times at the Newlands in the fifty-over format and the hosts have emerged victorious on four occasions.

Pakistan, however, registered a 23-run victory when they last played South Africa in an ODI at this venue in November 2013. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the visitors put on 218/9 on the board and followed up with a disciplined bowling performance to shoot the hosts out for 195.

Matches Played: 76; South Africa Won: 49; Pakistan Won: 27

South Africa vs Pakistan Betting Odds

South Africa start off as favorites amongst the bookmakers to win this fifth one-day international. The hosts are being offered at odds of 1.63 on Betfair and 1.53 on both Betway and Bet365. Pakistan, despite dominating the hosts in the last match, find themselves as outsiders at a higher price of 2.37 on Betway, 2.50 on Bet365 and 2.58 on Betfair.

🏆 South Africa vs Pakistan Prediction

After being whitewashed in the test series, Pakistan have looked much better in the game's fifty-over format. They were beaten in Durban and Centurion in back-to-back games but roared back with a clinical performance in Johannesburg to set up the series decider in Cape Town. The visitors are without their regular captain Sarfraz Ahmed but they did not miss him much in the last game. South Africa would have been very disappointed with their shocking performance with the bat last time and they will certainly look to make a strong comeback. They will now be playing at Newlands - a venue where they have been hard to beat in this format. Pakistan may have gained a lot of confidence from their win in the last match, but we feel South Africa will regroup and come up with a strong performance on Wednesday to clinch the series.

Final Verdict: Back South Africa to beat Pakistan in the fifth ODI at 1.63 with Betfair and 1.53 with both Betway and Bet365.
