Wicket-keepers
Francois Stoman and Luke Collado are your choices behind the stumps. Both did not feature in the Europe Region qualifiers so they are unknowns to an extent. Stoman batted at eight for Portugal and scored 13 from 24 balls. Collado may do better – he could be worth a gamble.
Batsmen
With Gibraltar set up more for all-rounders, Portugal may dominate your batting selections. Arslan Ahmed was scratchy last time out but his form in Portugal’s win against Cyprus last year shows what he can do. Md Fakhrul Hussain is listed as a batsman, meanwhile, but was tidy with the ball last time out instead. Zohaib Sawar, meanwhile, was out first ball and will be keen to show he can do better.
All-rounders
There is plenty of choice when it comes to all-rounders, with Tariq Aziz the top pick for Portugal. He is ten credits, but he bounced back from being dismissed first ball to take two wickets last time out. He will be at the top of the order too, so he is always worth backing for runs. For Gibraltar, this is where you can balance the teams out – Balaji Pai scored runs and took wickets during their World Cup qualifier, Mark Bacarese was tidy with bat and ball and captain Matthew Hunter is a canny all-rounder too.
Bowlers
Najjam Shahzad’s late-order hitting – scoring 27 not out from 30 balls to top score – could make him worth considering, even if he only bowled two balls. Amer Ikram is listed as a Portugal bowler too but was one of their better batsmen last time out. For Gibraltar, Mark Garratt and Richard Hatchman both played in the Europe qualifier and look set to retain their places. They are both 8.5 credits so take your pick.
Captain/vice-captain
Tariq Aziz took two wickets last time out and would make a good captain, having bounced back well from his first-ball dismissal. He is a better batsman than his first-baller suggests too. For Gibraltar, their star all-rounder is Balaji Pai – he was in the runs and wickets in their more recent matches – and he would be a good vice-captain pick.
