Pakistan and Australia meet in the first of three Tests in Rawalpindi from 4-8th March. The series, which is part of the 2021 - 2023 World Test Championship, will contest the newly named Benaud-Qadir Trophy. This is the first time that Australia have played in Pakistan since 1998. Pakistan had an excellent 2021 in Test cricket, losing only two games from nine across the year. They will be relishing the return of Australia to play in this country.
Australia showed how strong they are by winning the Ashes 4-0 in December 2021 and January 2022. However, beating Pakistan in Pakistan will be a very tough assignment.

Pakistan’s preparations for this opening Test Match were disrupted by illness to Haris Rauf who has now been ruled out of the game. Young pace bowler Naseem Shah has been called up to the squad in his place but we do not expect him to play in this match.

Australia embark on their first tour of Pakistan since 1998 still on a high from their dominant display in the 2021-22 Ashes series. Much of the pre-match debate will be whether to go with two or one spinners with Mitchell Swepson in line for a Test debut if two spinners are chosen.
