New Zealand Women vs South Africa Women Match Prediction, 2nd T20

New Zealand can double their series lead when they take on South Africa in the second match of this five-game WT20i series – which is serving as a warm-up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The match takes place at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on February 6 and is scheduled to start at 14:00 local time.

The hosts were in dominant form in the first game of the series as both Leigh Kasperek and Amelia Kerr took 2-17 from their four overs to help limit South Africa to 116/7. In reply, Sophie Devine continued her supreme form with another half-century – hitting 54* from 32 balls as New Zealand took just 12.2 overs to wrap up a nine-wicket win.

It was in stark contrast to the ODI series which preceded this one, which South Africa surprisingly won 3-0, and New Zealand are now big favourites to rack up a big series win to build momentum ahead of the World Cup. South Africa will hope the return of Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus will make a difference this time.

Toss Prediction

New Zealand won the toss and fielded first last time out, though Seddon Park may be more favourable to the team batting first than the Bay Oval was.

Weather Report

Hamilton will be clear, dry and sunny on Thursday, with temperatures in the mid-20s. There will be a bit of wind around, however.

Pitch Condition

Seddon Park tends to be good for batting, though Sune Luus’ success at the ground in the ODI series shows there is turn too.

NZ Women Team News & Playing 11

NZW Team News

Lea Tahuhu, back in the squad after skipping the WODI series as wife Amy Satterthwaite gave birth to their first child, was straight back into the team for the first game of the series. Rachel Priest took the gloves and opened the batting, but Suzie Bates could slot back in at the top of the order after dropping to three. New Zealand may stick with the same personnel after that win, however.

NZW Key Players

Sophie Devine: Her fine T20 form continues, hitting 54* from 32 balls to pick up where she left off in the WBBL and then the Women’s Super Smash. The only surprise was that her bowling did not match last time out.

Suzie Bates: Dropped down to number three last time out, but the world’s top-ranked WT20i batsmen may have a bigger impact on proceedings this time out.

Leigh Kasperek: Figures of 2-17 last time out means she has now taken 60 wickets in 35 T20 internationals.

NZW Team Form

New Zealand whitewashed India in their previous T20i series to this one and their winning form continued last time out as Sophie Devine hit yet another half-century in a nine-wicket win – chasing just 117 – to beat South Africa at Mount Maunganui. She was outshone with the ball, however – Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek both taking 2-17 to limit the tourists to 116/7.

NZW vs RSAW Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keeper

Lizelle Lee was out-scored by Rachel Priest last time out but the South African – if she gets back to her explosive best at the top of the order – remains one of their key batsmen.

Batsmen

Suzie Bates dropped to number three last time out but remains key with the bat and will bowl too and, if Sune Luus returns, she is in the same boat. Both are worth picking up. Mignon du Preez is another key South African batsman but it may be prudent to save some credits and opt for Laura Wolvaardt instead.

All-rounders

Onto the all-rounders and Sophie Devine is the obvious pick. She is 11 credits but her stunning form demands that you build your team around her. Marizanne Kapp is 9.5 credits but she was missed last time out and will be key if she returns – and has the advantage of being 0.5 credits cheaper than wife Dane van Niekerk, who is in a similar position. Amelia Kerr impressed last time out with the ball and is top value at nine credits, while selecting either Nadine de Klerk or Hayley Jensen allows you to balance some of the more expensive players.

Bowlers

Both Shabnim Ismail and Leigh Kasperek are nine credits apiece but you may only be able to afford one of them. Lea Tahuhu is 8.5 credits and Rosemary Mair is eight credits – both allow you to balance the cost of the likes of Devine.

Captain/Vice-captain

Sophie Devine’s stunning form continued, even if it was only with the bat and not the ball. She is still the obvious choice for captain. Suzie Bates is another who could feature with bat and ball, but the return of Marizanne Kapp could be key for South Africa – she has become a more prominent batsmen and remains a top bowler too.

SAW Team News

Sune Luus did not play last time out but could return to the team for this game after her excellent performance at Hamilton in the WODI series. If she does, she could open – as she did in South Africa’s previous WT20i before this one. Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk were other notable absentees last time out who could be set to return. All three missed out with minor injuries last time out.

SAW Key Players

Mignon du Preez: Scored a patient 20 last time out but she knows – and has showed with her recent T20 batting form – she is capable of more with the bat.

Lizelle Lee: In excellent form in the recent WODI series, if she fires at the top of the order, South Africa will score much more than last time out.

Marizanne Kapp: One of the three key players whose absence was keenly felt last time out, she is key with the ball and showed decent batting at the WBBL too.

SAW Team Form

South Africa lost their previous WT20i series to India and have now lost the opening game of this series too – albeit they were hampered by three key absences. Nevertheless, they will be disappointed to have struggled to just 116/7 with the bat – a score which New Zealand needed just 12.2 overs to chase down.
