NZ Women Team News & Playing 11

NZW Team News

New Zealand’s only change between the first two matches was Anna Peterson’s addition in place of the injured Frances Mackay – Peterson got the nod ahead of Hayley Jenson, having herself only being called up to the squad as a replacement for injured Bernadine Bezuidenhout. Jenson could come into the team for the final game, however, with the series already won.
Caitlin Gurrey and Rosemary Mair made their WT20I debuts in the first game and both were retained last time out.

NZW Key Players

Sophie Devine was in fine form in the Women’s Big Bash League, scoring 556 runs including four half-centuries, and she continued that in the first match of this series with 62 from 48 balls. Last time out she scored 19 in an opening partnership of 33 from 28 balls with Suzie Bates.

Bates has also been in good form. She was New Zealand’s top run scorer at the Women’s WorldT20, with 161 from her four innings, then scored 421 runs in 14 WBBL innings and hit 62 from 52 balls in the second match to power the New Zealand chase.

Captain Amy Satterthwaite scored 31, 71 and 66* in the three ODI matches and has followed that with 33 and 23 so far in his WT20I series to continue her good batting form too.

With the ball, Lea Tahuhu’s double-wicket maiden in the first game turned the match in New Zealand’s favour but she went wicketless last time out. Leigh Kasparek took 2-25 in the first game and 1-20 in the second, having also claimed eight wickets at the World T20.

NZW Team Form

New Zealand have now won their last four WT20I matches. They lost their first two at the World T20, to India and Australia, but have bounced back since.

They suffered a 34-run defeat to India at the World T20, scoring 160/9 in reply to 194/5, and were then all out for 120 chasing Australia’s 153/7. The White Ferns bounced back by beating Pakistan by 54 runs, however – Jess Watkin and Amelia Kerr each taking three wickets as they bowled Pakistan out for 90. In the final game, Leigh Kasparek (3-19) led the bowling as they restricted Ireland to 79/9 from 20 overs and Sophie Devine’s half-century ensured a comfortable victory in just 7.3 overs in reply.

Devine led the way in the first game of this series, meanwhile, before Suzie Bates’ 62 in the second match set the tone for a chase of 136 to win, that ultimately went down to the final ball.

IND Women Team News & Playing 11

INDW Team News

Priya Punia made her debut in the first game in this series but has struggled with the bat in the first two matches and could be dropped for the final game. ODI captain Mithali Raj is one of the players waiting in the wings. Mansi Joshi relaced Anuja Patil last time and bowled the final over – her wicket not enough to defend the nine runs New Zealand needed.

INDW Key Players

Smriti Mandhana’s fine batting form continued last time out as she scored 36 from 27 balls to follow up her quick-fire half-century in the first game. After scores of 105 and 90* in the first two ODIs that preceded this series she is clearly in superb form with the bat.

The same goes for Jemimah Rodrigues, who smashed 72 from 53 balls last time out to follow up the 39 she scored in the first game and her unbeaten 81 in the first match of the ODI series. She now has five half-centuries in 17 WT20I innings.

It was Rodrigues who shared a record-breaking partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur in the match against New Zealand at the World T20 too. Kaur stole the headlines on that occasion, however, after scoring a 51-ball 103 to lead India to victory.

With the ball, Radha Yadav’s 2-23 last time out takes her to 20 wickets in 15 WT20Is. That includes eight at the World T20 too, at an economy rate of 5.75 runs per over. Poonam Yadav took 1-32 last time out, meanwhile. She now has 71 wickets in 50 WT20I appearances, having also taken eight at the World T20.

INDW Team Form

India have now lost their last three T20 matches, having previously stormed through their World T20 group with four wins from four. Harmanpreet Kaur set the tone at the World Cup with a century in the first game, while Jemimah Rodrigues hit 59 as they set 194/5 against New Zealand and claimed a 34-run win.

They also beat Pakistan and Ireland and then put eventual winners Australia to the sword in the final group game – Smriti Mandhana scoring 83 and Anuja Patil claiming 3-15 in a 48-run win. A batting collapse against England in the semi-finals saw them post just 112 all out and lose by eight wickets, however. And they have lost their first two matches of this series after failing to take advantage of big scores at the top of the order too. They fell from 102-1 to 136 all out in the first game, and their total of 135/6 was just below par too as they suffered a last-ball defeat.

NZ Women vs IND Women Head to Head

New Zealand have won seven of their ten WT20Is against India, with the last of India’s three wins coming in the first match of the World T20 last year.

Harmanpreet Kaur scored a century and Jemimah Rodrigues a half-century on that occasion, as India posted 194/5 on their way to a 34-run win, but New Zealand have hit back in this series.

Sophie Devine was the batting star in the first game, while Lea Tahuhu turned the game New Zealand’s way with the ball. In the second match, Suzie Bates top-scored to power a chase of 136 to win – a target New Zealand reached off the final ball to claim a four-wicket win.

NZ Women vs IND Women Betting Odds

The bookmakers are split ahead of this series decider with both India Women and New Zealand Women priced at 1.90 to win with Bet365.

The top order could be key for both teams, with India’s middle and lower-order falling short so far. For New Zealand, Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates are both 3.25 to top score – having each done so once in the two games so far.

For India, Jemimah Rodrigues was in top form last time out and is 4.50 to top score again. Smriti Mandhana is in excellent form too, having also proved as much in the ODI series. She is 2.87 with Bet365.

Both teams are 1.90 to post the highest opening partnership, but with Devine and Bates both continuing the form they showed with the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL, New Zealand are worth backing.

🏆 NZ Women vs IND Women Prediction

New Zealand have claimed a series win but it has been a case of fine margins in both games. India will want to end on a high, having been unable to take advantage of good positions in either of the first two matches so far.
