New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

Jimmy Neesham and Todd Astle were added to the squad after the third ODI and both are likely to retain their places in the starting XI after taking wickets in the fourth ODI. Doug Bracewell and Ish Sodhi were the men replaced, while Colin Munro also missed out – replaced by Colin de Grandhomme. The better balance the all-rounders give to the line-up mean the tactic could be replaced. The main selection issue would appear to be which of Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry and Tim Southee will take the new ball with Trent Boult.

NZ Key Players

Ross Taylor came into this series on the back of a starring role with the bat in the win against Sri Lanka. He hit 90 and 137 in his final two games and returned to form in the third ODI by scoring 93 from 106 balls in this series. He top-scored again last time out, hitting an unbeaten 37 from 25 balls.

The rest of New Zealand’s top order are yet to fire in this series – with Colin Munro dropped last time out as a result – but Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls both scored hundreds against Sri Lanka, while Kane Williamson hit two half-centuries in that series and added another first time out in this one.

With the ball, Trent Boult’s 5-21 from ten overs led the way as New Zealand ripped through the India batting line-up last time out. He now has nine wickets in this series and 138 in his ODI career, from 75 matches – including now five five-wicket hauls.

Colin de Grandhomme claimed 3-26 last time out, meanwhile, as he proved his worth with the ball and Jimmy Neesham – who shone with bat and ball against Sri Lanka – picked up one wicket.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand had won four of their five completed matches prior to this series and have therefore now won five of their last nine.Prior to this series, they last lost at home to England, 3-2, last year and then drew 1-1 with Pakistan in the UAE after that. Ross Taylor scored 80 and Trent Boult took a hat-trick as they won the first game by 47 runs.

Taylor top-scored in the next match too, but New Zealand scored just 209/9 despite his 86, and they lost by six wickets. The final match was then rained off after Pakistan had scored 278/8, with Lockie Ferguson claiming 5-45.

Back at home, they thrashed Sri Lanka before this series. Martin Guptill’s 138 and another Taylor half-century lifted them to 371/7 in the opening game on their way to a 45-run win, before Taylor scored 90 in the second match as 319/7 earned a 21-run win.In the final game, Taylor scored 137 and Henry Nicholls added an unbeaten 124 as New Zealand posted 356/4 on their way to a massive 115-run win.

In the first three games of this series, New Zealand were bowled out for 157, 234 and 243 in losing all three but bounced back last time out. Trent Boult claimed 5-21 as the Black Caps bowled India out for just 92 – Taylor once again top-scoring as they took just 14.2 overs to claim an eight-wicket win.

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

Shubman Gill made his ODI debut last time out, replacing the rested Virat Kohli, and Khaleel Ahmed came in for in-form Mohammed Shami. Rohit Sharma captained the side, while MS Dhoni and Vijay Shankar remained out as Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya were given more game time. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj are both yet to feature and could come into the team for the final game as India explore their options ahead of the World Cup with the series already won.

IND Key Players

While it did not show last time out, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have continued their good form in this series, having both been big parts of India’s recent ODI successes. Both have hit two half-centuries, while Sharma top-scored in the second and third matches with knocks of 87 and 62.

Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik both made useful scores in the third ODI but need to back those up if they are to cement places in this team ahead of the World Cup.

On the bowling side, Mohammed Shami was rested for the fourth ODI, but had previously been named man of the match in the first and third, taking three wickets in each of those. Kuldeep Yadav spun his way to four wickets in each of the first two games, while Yuzvendra Chahal – who sealed victory against Australia with 6-42 in the decider against them – has six wickets in the series so far.

IND Team Form

India bounced back from ODI series defeat to England in July by winning the Asia Cup in their next engagement, and have now beaten West Indies, Australia and New Zealand in their three series since.
Virat Kohli hit three back-to-back centuries in the series against West Indies, though it was Rohit Sharma’s 162 in a 224-run win in the fourth game that turned the series India’s way. They sealed victory by bowling West Indies out for 104 on their way to a nine-wicket win in the final game.

In Australia, MS Dhoni hit half-centuries in all three matches as India came from 1-0 down to win 2-1. Dhoni was criticised for his scoring rate in the first ODI but he hit the winning runs in the second match, after Virat Kohli’s century, to level the series. In the third game, Yuzvendra Chahal took 6-42 with the ball as Australia were dismissed for 230; Dhoni’s unbeaten 87 led India to a seven-wicket win.

So far in this series, Mohammed Shami’s bowling and Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma’s batting fired India into a 3-0 lead after the first three games. They were bowled out for 92 and lost by eight wickets in just 14.4 overs last time out, but are still guaranteed another series win.

India Predicted Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami

New Zealand vs India Head to Head

With three wins from three so far in this series, India have now won 54 of their 104 previous games against New Zealand. That is ten more than New Zealand have won in that time, while there has been one tie and five no results.

Prior to this series, India came from behind to win a three-game series 2-1. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the heroes in a thrilling decider. They both hit centuries and shared a 230-run partnership as India posted 337/6. In reply, New Zealand fell just six runs short.

In this series, Sharma and Kohli both hit half-centuries in the third match as India claimed their series win, but it has been the bowlers who have impressed most. New Zealand were dismissed for 157 in the first game, 234 in the second and 243 in the third with Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal all in the wickets.

New Zealand vs India Betting Odds

New Zealand hit back in the fourth ODI but remain outsiders for this one. The hosts are 2.00 to win with Betfair and Bet365, while India are 1.80.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been India’s key batsmen in this series. Sharma is 3.00 to be their top batsman in the fifth ODI with Bet365, while Dhawan is 3.50. They are also 1.80 to post the highest opening partnership – something they did in the fourth ODI, despite what was ultimately a crushing defeat.

For New Zealand, Ross Taylor’s form has been outstanding and he has top-scored in each of the last two games, having also been in incredible form against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He can still be backed at 5.00 to top score for the Black Caps too. Taylor is 9.00 with Betfair to be the top batsman in the match, meanwhile, despite being exactly that in the last two games.

With the ball, after his excellent bowling and five-wicket haul in the fourth ODI, Trent Boult is worth backing at a best price of 3.75 with Betfair to be New Zealand’s top bowler.

🏆 New Zealand vs India Prediction

India wrapped up series victory with ease in the first three games and will want to end on a high after the disappointing defeat last time out.

Final Verdict: Back India to beat New Zealand at 1.80 with Bet365 and Betfair.
