New Zealand Team News & Playing 11

NZ Team News

Daryl Mitchell made his New Zealand T20i debut in the first match of the series, having been rewarded for his excellent form in the Super Smash. Martin Guptill will miss the series through injury, with Jimmy Neesham added to the squad in his place, but it was Tim Seifert who opened the batting with aplomb last time out. If New Zealand elect to make changes, however, Neesham and Doug Bracewell could come into the team for Colin de Grandhomme and Scott Kuggeleijn. Blair Tickner was the other unused player in the squad for the first game.

NZ Key Players

Tim Seifert failed to seize his opportunity in the limited-overs series with Sri Lanka last month but that behind him by smashing seven fours and six sixes in the first T20 of this series on his way to 84 from 43 balls.

Seifert shared an 86-run partnership with Colin Munro, who is also coming back into form after a barren spell, and has now hit 41, 54 and 34 in his last three T20 innings for Auckland and New Zealand.

Form has never been an issue for captain Kane Williamson, however – he hit ODI half-centuries in the series with Sri Lanka and India and scored 34 from 22 balls last time out. Ross Taylor continued his good form too, with a breezy 23 having been in superb form in international limited-overs cricket.

With the ball, Tim Southee led the way with 3-17 from his four overs, while Lockie Ferguson took 2-22 to add to the 3-21 he claimed against Sri Lanka. Ish Sodhi also claimed five wickets across the two games, while Mitchell Santner took three.

NZ Team Form

New Zealand have now own their last two T20 internationals, both on home soil, having been whitewashed by in-form Pakistan in their most recent series before that.

The win against India in the first game, when Tim Seifert smashed 84 and the bowlers limited India to 139 all out, followed victory against Sri Lanka in their most recent T20 match before that.

Against the Sri Lankan tourists, late order runs from Doug Bracewell (44) and Scott Kuggeleijn (35*) lifted New Zealand to 179/7, before Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi both claimed three wickets each to bowl the tourists out for 144.

They had previously pushed Pakistan close in two of their three matches in the UAE – finishing two runs short of Pakistan’s 148/6 despite 58 from Colin Munro and an unbeaten 42 from Ross Taylor, and then seeing Pakistan reach 154/4 with two balls remaining to win the second game. In the final game, however, New Zealand were all out for 119 in reply to 166/3.

New Zealand Predicted Playing 11

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

India could look to make changes after coming up short with both bat and ball in the first match of this series. With Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah rested and KL Rahul not recalled after his ban for comments made on a TV talk show, unused players in the first game were Shubman Gill, Kedhar Jadhav, Siddarth Kaul, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. Of those, Kuldeep Yadav bowled well in the recent series against Australia, while Siddarth Kaul took more IPL wickets last season than any other Indian bowler.

IND Key Players

There were few highlights for India in the first match in this series but Shikhar Dhawan did continue the T20 form he showed in Australia in November. Dhawan scored 76 and 41 in that series and hit two fours and three sixes in his breezy 29 against New Zealand.

Opening partner, and captain in place of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma was in good form in the ODI series, meanwhile, and will look to add to his 15 T20i 50s and four T20i centuries to lead an Indian fightback.

Rishabh Pant was another to fall short last time out, but he was the top Indian run scorer in the IPL last season, scoring five 50s and one century, and will want to prove himself worthy of a regular stating place ahead of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik.
On the topic of the IPL, Siddarth Kaul is one player who could come in having been the leading Indian wicket taker in last year’s tournament. Of the bowlers who started the first game, meanwhile, Krunal Pandya also took five wickets in the series with Australia.

IND Team Form

India drew their most recent T20i series when they faced Australia in November. Shikhar Dhawan scored 76 from 42 balls in the first game, in a revised chase of 174 from 17 overs, but India lost by four runs.  The second match was abandoned with Australia 132/7 from 19 overs in the first innings but India tied the series in the final game – Krunal Pandya claiming 4-36 as Australia scored 164/6, before Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 61 led India to a six-wicket win with two balls to spare. It means they came into this series with New Zealand unbeaten in their last nine T20 series – they have not lost since West Indies beat them in a one-off match in 2017, beating Sri Lanka, South Africa and England among others since then.

India Predicted Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, Shubman Gill, Krunal Pandya, Siddharth Kaul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed

New Zealand vs India Head to Head

This will be the tenth T20 international between New Zealand and India, with India having only won two of the previous nine. They boast at least a 50 per cent win record against every other nation, making this by far their worst record against any other team.

Those two wins did come in the most recent series between the two, however, in November 2017: India posting 202/3 to win the first game by 53 runs (Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan both scored 80) and then, after New Zealand hit back with a 40-run win in the second courtesy of Colin Munro’s unbeaten 109, India won a reduced eight-over game by six runs – Jasprit Bumrah claiming 2-9 from his two overs to make the difference – to seal the series.

New Zealand vs India Betting Odds

Despite their dominant win in the first match, New Zealand have actually been listed as outsiders for this match and could be worth backing at 2.20 to win with Bet365 or 2.10 with Betway. India are 1.70 with Betway and 1.66 with Bet365.

Tim Seifert top-scored for New Zealand last time out and he is 4.33 to do so again with Bet365. Kane Williamson is 3.75, while in-form Ross Taylor is 5.50.

For India, more is expected of their opening pair this time. Rohit Sharma is 3.50 to be their top batsman and Shikhar Dhawan is 4.00.

Furthermore, India are 1.72 with Betway to post the highest opening partnership, and Betway are also offering 2.50 on either opening partnership to score 50.

🏆 New Zealand vs India Prediction

New Zealand’s batsmen were dominant in the first game, with the tourists clearly missing both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. They can seal a series win with more of the same.
