Who Will Win New Zealand vs India, 1st T20?
India wrapped up the ODI series 4-1 with a 35-run victory in the fifth and final game at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. After being downed in the one-dayers, New Zealand will look to hit back hard in the first T20 international which will be played at the same venue. The opening game of the three-match T20I series will be played on February 6 with live telecast scheduled to begin at 8 PM local time.

New Zealand have been dealt a big blow ahead of the T20I series with opening batsman Martin Guptill being ruled out of the entire series due to a back injury. Allrounder James Neesham has been added to the squad as a replacement for Guptill. Fast bowler Blair Tickner, wicketkeeper Tim Seifert and allrounders Daryl Mitchell and Scott Kuggeleijn are the fresh faces that have been included by the hosts in their T20 squad.

With Martin Guptill ruled out, New Zealand are likely to open their batting with Colin Munro and Kane Williamson and it will be up to these two to take the team off to a flying start. Munro is the world's second-best batsman in the T20 format. The left-hander struggled to get going against the Indian bowlers in the ODIs but he is expected to return to his destructive self in the T20Is. Ross Taylor has looked in fine form and he along with Williamson will hold the key for the Kiwis. Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi will be the ones to watch out for with the ball. Southee is the most experienced bowler in this line-up and he has eight wickets in four T20Is at the Westpac. Sodhi is fourth in the ICC T20I bowling rankings and the leg-spinner could build pressure on the Indian batsmen with his tight bowling.

New Zealand's performance in the twenty-over format has not been impressive at all in the recent past. They have managed to win just four of their last thirteen T20 internationals and have lost six of their last seven. The Kiwis played their last T20I series against Sri Lanka at home. It was a one-off match at Auckland which the hosts ended up winning by 35 runs.

Rohit Sharma will continue to remain in charge of the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli who flew back home after the third one-day international. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been picked for the T20I series along with allrounder Krunal Pandya and pace bowler Siddarth Kaul. Vijay Shankar and Shubman Gill, who made his international debut in the fourth ODI, have been retained.

The opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be the key for India in terms of batting, and so will be MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in the middle order. Dhawan smashed a couple of fifties in the ODI series and he will be expected to extend his good run of form. Skipper Rohit can be a big nuisance for the Kiwis once he finds his rhythm. Karthik is a specialist in this format and he can add a brisk 30-40 runs at the backend of the innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will be the main weapons for India when it comes to bowling. Bhuvneshwar's pace variations will be key in the powerplay while the two wrist-spinners will look to cause some damage in the middle overs. Kuldeep is ranked third in the ICC T20I bowling rankings and he is more likely to claim the best figures in this match.
IND Recent Form
India have enjoyed an excellent run in the T20 format of late; they have 14 wins in the 18 completed matches they played last year. They have not lost any of their last ten T20I series which shows how good they have been in the game's shortest version. Their previous T20I assignment came against Australia in Australia - a series of three matches which ended in a 1-1 draw.

While New Zealand will be carrying doubts in their mind, India will be carrying momentum which is why we expect the latter to start this T20I series off with a win.
