England Women are favorites to win
New Zealand Women will take on England Women at the University Oval, Dunedin in the first WT20I of the series. This game gets underway at 13:00 local time on Tuesday, 19th March, 2024.
This is a good batting track in Dunedin and bowlers will concede runs during their spells. A par score is likely to be over 165 in this WT20I.

With the Women’s Premier League only coming to an end on Sunday, New Zealand Women will be without all-rounders Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine for this opener. Georgia Plimmer and Mikaele Greig have both been called up and could play in this game with the side captained by Suzie Bates.
Captain Kerr and the experienced Devine will both be big misses for New Zealand Women in this game as they are two of their top players. However, Bates is a more than able deputy and she hit a Player of the Match score of 51 not out from 42 balls in New Zealand’s last fixture in this format.
We can expect Eden Carson to lead the bowling attack in Dunedin and the 22 year old off-spinner took a two-wicket haul in New Zealand Women’s last WT20I. Fran Jonas is another exciting young spinner and she is renowned for bowling with good control.
New Zealand Women had lost three successive WT20Is before winning their last game.
Suzie Bates (c), Bernadine Bezuidenhout (wk), Izzy Gaze, Brooke Halliday, Rosemary Mair, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu, Eden Carson, Fran Jonas
Due to the WPL, Alice Capsey, Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danielle Wyatt will all be unavailable for this game and each of the first three matches of this series. Skipper Heather Knight missed the WPL to focus on this series and she will lead an experienced squad with Hollie Armitage the only uncapped player.
Heather Knight is not only the captain of this team but also their most experienced player who hit a half-century in their last WT20I. Sophia Dunkley and Maia Bouchier are aggressive openers and keeper-batter Amy Jones is another top class batter in the side.
With left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone absent, this will give the opportunity for other bowlers to lead the attack in this game. Charlie Dean impressed with her off-spin in the last WT20I and she is expected to open the bowling for England Women in this game.
England Women lost their last WT20I by 5 wickets but had won the previous two in the three-match series against India Women in December last year.
Sophia Dunkley, Maia Bouchier, Linsey Smith, Heather Knight (c), Amy Jones (wk), Danielle Gibson, Bess Heath, Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean, Sarah Glenn
After losing their last home WT20I series to Pakistan Women, and without two of their top players, this could be a tough series opener for New Zealand Women. However, England Women are also without some of their strongest individuals so it will not be an easy game for them either. Our prediction is for a close match with England Women going 1-0 up.
