Who will win Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes, WBBL 2019?
Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes complete their double-header at the CitiPower Centre, Melbourne, when they meet for the second time in two days. The match takes place on October 20 and the live action gets underway at 14:10 local time.
Both teams are looking to improve on last season, when they were seventh and eighth in the table. Hobart won the first game this year by 20 runs, after Chloe Tryon helped them to 164/5, before Maisy Gibson and Belinda Vakarewa took three wickets apiece to restrict the Stars to 144/9.
There were some positives for Melbourne, however – Erin Osborne took two wickets and hit 40 runs, and they will hope their South African duo of Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez can fire this time.

Melbourne Stars Women Team News & Playing 11
MLSW Team News
Elyse Villani captained the team on her first appearance last time out, after signing from Perth Scorchers, but she lasted just one ball batting at number two. Nevertheless, with her, Lizelle Lee, Mignon du Preez and Katey Martin in their top order, as well as returning wicket-keeper-batsman Emma Inglis, there is plenty of batting talent up the order and knee-jerk changes are unlikely.
MLSW Key Players
Lizelle Lee: The big-hitting South African smashed 84 in the final T20i against India earlier this month and showed good form at the end of the Kia Super League too. Consistency is the key now.
Mignon du Preez: Subdued since starting that series against India with a half-century for South Africa, but she was a key part of Loughborough Lightning reaching the KSL finals day and will hope to recapture that batting form.
Erin Osborne: Took two wickets and then scored 40 with the bat to prove her all-round ability. She had no answer to Hobart’s late hitting, however, and needed to score faster herself. Nevertheless, she has a platform to build from now.
MLSW Team Form
Melbourne Stars finished seventh last season and made a losing start to this year’s campaign too. They would have been relatively happy, having restricted Hobart Hurricanes to 101/5 after 15.3 overs, but some late hitting left them needing 165 to win and they found themselves 36/4 in reply. They eventually finished on 144/9.

HBHW Team News
After finishing bottom of the table last season, Hobart Hurricanes have recruited well this season. Seven players – Nicola Carey, Tayla Vlaeminck, Maisy Gibson, Belinda Vakarewa, Fran Wilson, Chloe Tryon and Emily Smith – all made their first Hurricanes’ appearance in the previous game.
HBHW Key Players
Chloe Tryon: The South African’s first Women’s Big Bash League innings was one to remember, as she smashed 46 from 18 balls to swing the momentum Hobart’s way at the end of the first innings. A classic finisher, she has a WT20i strike rate of 138.27.
Heather Knight: The England captain scored an unbeaten 78 in the Kia Super League Final to fire Western Storm to victory – one of three half-centuries in her final five matches of that competition. A useful extra bowling option too, she remains key for the Hurricanes.
Belinda Vakarewa: Named player of the match on her Hurricanes’ debut after taking 3-27 with the ball and claiming two catches too.
HBHW Team Form
Hobart Hurricanes finished bottom of the table last season but they have recruited heavily this year and, with seven new faces in their team to face the Melbourne Stars in their opening game, they posted 164/5 and won by 20 runs. Melbourne Stars Women vs Hobart Hurricanes Women Head to Head
One of Hobart Hurricanes’ only wins last season came against the Melbourne Stars and they backed that up by beating them in their opening game of this season too. Inspired by Chloe Tryon’s late hitting and then three wickets apiece for Belinda Vakarewa and Maisy Gibson – all on their Hurricanes’ debuts – they started this season with a 20-run win. It was their sixth win against the Stars, compared to three defeats.
