Who will win Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers, WBBL 2019?

Perth Scorchers’ Women’s Big Bash League campaign gets underway belatedly when they take on Melbourne Renegades at the CitiPower Centre, Melbourne. The match takes place on October 23 and will start at 13:00 local time.

Perth are the only one of the eight teams not to have started yet – their most recent match was last season’s ten-wicket win against Adelaide Strikers, in which Amy Jones and Meg Lanning starred. Those two return as part of a potentially big-hitting batting line-up this season too.

The Renegades, meanwhile, had Danni Wyatt in top form last time out as they bounced back from a defeat to the Adelaide Strikers by beating them at the second time of asking. They are one of five teams to have taken two points from their opening two games.

MLRW vs PRSW Toss Prediction

The tendency is to field first at the CitiPower Centre. Melbourne Renegades have lost the toss twice so far, they are due to win this one and may well look to chase as a result.

MLRW vs PRSW Weather Report

Summer arrives in St Kilda this week, with temperatures set to rise to the 30s on Thursday. There is zero chance of rain forecast, though there will be a fair bit of wind about.

MLRW vs PRSW Pitch Condition

Run rates have generally been good at the CitiPower Centre, though overall it would have to be described as a well-balanced pitch with some assistance for bowlers too.

Melbourne Renegades Women Team News & Playing 11

MLRW Team News

Melbourne Renegades kept faith with the same XI after they lost their first match to Adelaide Strikers, and they duly rewarded the selectors by winning the second game. It is likely to be the same XI again as a result.

MLRW Key Players

Maitlin Brown: Started the tournament well, taking 2-15 in the first game and then following that up with 2-20 in the second. The 22-year-old is their leading wicket-taker so far as a result.

Danni Wyatt: Arrived at this tournament having been in superb form at the Kia Super League, and the big-hitting England star proved that form when she hit 61 from 37 balls in the win against Adelaide last time out.

Lea Tahuhu: Pregnant wife Amy Satterthwaite is unavailable, but the Renegades still have Tahuhu available and she proved her worth with 2-20, including an early double-wicket maiden, in the opening game.

MLRW Team Form

Melbourne Renegades opened the Women’s Big Bash League with two matches against Adelaide Strikers. They lost the first, after posting just 117/7 – having been 21/4 at the end of the powerplay. They won the second, however – Danni Wyatt top-scored with 61 from 37 balls, sharing an 84-run second-wicket partnership with Tammy Beaumont, as the Renegades reached 154/5 to beat the Strikers.

MLRW vs PRSW Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

Wicket-keeper

Josie Dooley is eight credits and has made a decent start to WBBL|05 for that price, but it is hard to overlook England opener Amy Jones – who is also likely to open for the Scorchers – at 9.5 credits.

Batsmen

Meg Lanning will open with Jones and arrives in good form too, having captained Australia to some dominant recent white-ball wins. She is 10.5 credits but worth picking up – particularly given her performances last season. Tammy Beaumont is 9.5 credits but enjoyed a key partnership with Danni Wyatt last time out, meanwhile. Jess Duffin, the Renegades captain, is 8.5 credits.

All-rounders

Danni Wyatt is ten credits, having been the Renegades’ top batsman last time out. She is in excellent batting form, though she has not bowled in this year’s tournament. Nat Sciver is also ten credits as she makes her WBBL return. Sophie Molineux is yet to shine for the Renegades so far, so at 9.5 credits she might be a gamble too far. Instead, Heather Graham – last season’s top WBBL wicket taker – is nine credits, and Kim Garth is just 8.5 The latter has been in good form for Ireland.

Bowlers

That does not leave much for the out-and-out bowlers, though in Graham and Sciver you have two potentially key bowlers already. Nevertheless, it can be done. Maitlin Brown has four wickets in two games and is just 8.5 credits, while Kath Hempenstall is back in the Big Bash and costs just eight credits, as does team-mate Taneale Peschel. If you have left more in reserve for the bowlers, Lea Tahuhu is the most expensive at nine credits, while Molly Strano is the same price and Georgia Wareham is 8.5 credits.

Captain/Vice-captain

Nat Sciver is more likely to feature with both bat and ball than England team-mate Danni Wyatt, making her a good option as captain. Both England internationals could be key, however. Heather Graham is a consistent wicket-taker and bats high up the Scorchers order, meanwhile, and Kim Garth has scored runs and taken wickets for Ireland. There’s also the option of Meg Lanning, at the top of the order for the Scorchers. Sciver as captain, with wicket-taking Graham as vice-captain is our pick.

Perth Scorchers Women Team News & Playing 11

PRSW Team News

Perth Scorchers have had to wait patiently for their first matches of the new Women’s Big Bash League campaign, with every other team having got underway except them. Since last season, Elyse Villani has moved the Melbourne Stars and English bowler Kate Cross is not retuning, but Nat Sciver adds international quality and Kim Garth is an interesting acquisition – the Irishwoman having proved herself a canny all-rounder in the shortest form.

PRSW Key Players

Meg Lanning: One of the Australian captain’s five half-centuries last season came against Melbourne Renegades. She scored those runs despite only playing nine matches, and her form for Australia has been top-class recently too.

Amy Jones: Hit and miss at times at the top of the order, the England opener scored 66* and 74* in her last two innings in the regular league phase of the KSL, having hit 70* last time she batted for the Scorchers too.

Heather Graham: Took 22 wickets in 14 innings last season to top the Women’s Big Bash League wicket-taking charts, and made her Australia white-ball debut earlier this month, aged 23.

PRSW Team Form

Perth Scorchers are the final team to get their WBBL|05 campaign underway. Last season, they finished fifth – just a point behind the Renegades – though they did sign off their campaign in style. Playing against Adelaide Strikers, they were set 141 to win but Meg Lanning and Amy Jones each hit 70 not out to ensure they won by ten wickets with 20 balls remaining.
