Kabul Zwanan have been consistent with their batting line-up but continue to tinker with the bowlers. Muslim Musa returned last time out, and took two wickets, while Fitratullah Khawari made his first start of the tournament – taking 1-28 from just two overs. Nijat Masood and Zahir Shehzad were the two to make way. Musa is likely to retain his place, but Shehzad could return. American Ali Khan has not played since the first game and, with Wayne Parnell in the wickets last time out, looks unlikely to force his way back into the team.
Laurie Evans hit his third half-century in four matches in the win against Kandahar Knights last time out. Having been top scorer in the t20 Blast in England this summer, the uncapped batsman has scored 79*, 64 and 57* in Sharjah – as well as an unbeaten five in between – meaning he tops the run scoring charts so far. He has also hit the most sixes in the competition so far with 15.
That is five more than team-mate Hazratullah Zazai – who hit nine of his ten in the win against Nangarhar last time out. His 55-ball 124 won the game for Kabul Zwanan and is the only century hit in the competition so far.
With the ball, Kabul Zwanan are led by world number one T20 international bowler Rashid Khan. He was unusually expensive last time out, against Kandahar Knights, but claimed 1-13 from four overs when he last faced Nangarhar Leopards.
The star bowler against the Knights was teenager Shahidullah instead – he took 2-18 from four overs, having earlier hit 33 with the bat.
Kabul Zwanan have won three of their first four matches with Balkh Legends the only team to beat them so far, in their second game. They beat Paktia Panters on the opening night thanks to Laurie Evans’ unbeaten 79 from 39 balls – chasing 219 to win in the final over.
Evans top scored again in the game against the Legends, while Rashid Khan hit 56, but the total of 176/6 was not enough – Balkh getting home with seven balls and eight wickets in hand.
Victory against Nangarhar Leopards followed, despite needing to chase 189 to win – a total that would have been much higher but for Rashid Khan’s excellent 1-13 from four overs. Hazratullah Zazai led the way in the response, with his explosive 124 from 55 balls to lead Kabul to a seven-wicket win. Finally, they completed their first half of the round robin with a narrow win against Kandahar Knights. They had been cruising at one point, after Laurie Evans’ 57 not out helped them to 173/6, but some late hitting from Riki Wessels meant the Knights ended up finishing just two runs short.

Andre Russell’s arrival to play for Nangarhar Leopards proved to be brief and forgettable. After his four-ball duck against Kabul Zwanan on his first appearance, a recurring hamstring injury has ruled the West Indian out of the rest of the tournament. He was replaced by Johnson Charles in the side for the defeat to Balkh Legends, while Australian Nathan Rimmington is on his way to Sharjah to replace the big-hitting West Indian in the squad. Ben Cutting will therefore carry on as captain.
Sandeep Lamichhane has one more game in the ICC World Twenty20 Asia Region Qualifier to play for Nepal – where he has taken 20 wickets in five games against weak opposition – meaning there are unlikely to be any changes to the bowling line-up just yet.
After smashing a career-best unbeaten 94 in the game against Kabul Zwanan, Anton Devcich continued some of that form with 48 from 44 balls against Balkh Legends last time out – falling just short of what would have been his 18th T20 half-century.
It was a rare big score in a difficult innings for the Leopards, but they did at least impress with the ball – teenage twirlyman Mujeeb ur Rahman claiming 2-19 from his four overs. Ben Cutting’s wicket means he is the first bowler in this year’s competition to reach double figures for the tournament – half of which arrived in one go, when he claimed 5-28 in the win against Kandahar Knights.
Zahir Khan has weighed in with five, meanwhile, and has generally been economical – his total economy rate of 6.28 is the lowest for any bowler with two or more wickets in the tournament so far.
Nangarhar Leopards started the APL with a six-wicket victory against Kandahar Knights – thanks in no small part to Ben Cutting’s career-best 5-28 – but they have lost all three games since.
A 21-run defeat to Paktia Panthers followed, despite wickets and runs for Cutting, before the previous game against Kabul Zwanan – during which Anton Devcich hit his 94 not out, only for Kabul Zwanan to blast their way to victory in pursuit of 189 to win.
Last time out, unable to cope with the bowling of Mirwais Ashraf and Gulbadin Naib, they succumbed to 118 all out in pursuit of 144 to win – Devcich’s 48 a rare positive.

In-form Kabul Zwanan are big favourites to beat Nangarhar Leopards at 1.61 to win with Bet365 - Nangarhar are 2.30.
Laurie Evans is in fine form with the bat and is 5.00 to finish as Kabul Zwanan’s top batsman - a feat Hazratullah Zazai (4.33), Luke Ronchi (4.00) and Colin Ingram (4.33) could also achieve.
For the Leopards, Anton Devcich has top scored in both of the last two games and is a surprisingly generous 5.00 to be their top batsman again.
