Ireland will take on Nepal in Match 6 of the 2022 Oman Quadrangular Series. This IT20 match will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on February 14 starting at 14:00 local time.
Ireland beat Oman by 9 wickets earlier in the series but were defeated by the UAE by 13 runs on Sunday. Chasing 179 for victory, captain Andy Balbirnie (42), Gareth Delany (40) and Curtis Campher (40) all made useful contributions but, in truth, they needed one of the three to go on and hit a score of 80+. Earlier in the game, fast medium bowler Craig Young had been the standout bowler after taking 4-28. He was well backed up by spinner Simi Singh who went at 6.75 runs per over.
Nepal have won one and lost one game in the series so far. They began the campaign with a 6 wicket win over hosts Oman but then lost to the UAE by 25 runs on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to field first, Nepal’s over-reliance on Sandeep Lamichhane was evident. He returned figures of 1-23 from 4 overs with none of the other bowlers in the attack able to keep the run rate down. With the bat, Dipendra Singh Airee top scored with 41 from 33 balls but there were not enough sixes from the team as a whole to chase down the target.
