England Women are favorites to win
England Women will take on South Africa Women in a one off Test Match. The game will be played at the County Ground, Tanuton starting at 11:00 local time on Monday 27th June.
England Women have not won any of their last six Tests and have drawn their last four games in this format. Their last win came against Australia in Perth in January 2014 with their last home victory registered in August 2005. However, we have to go back to 2003 to find England Women’s last victory at Taunton, an innings and 96 run win over South Africa Women. This will be a new look England in the bowling department after the retirements of Anya Shrubsole and Katharine Brunt earlier this year. Emily Arlott, Lauren Bell, Alive Davidson-Richards, Freya Davies and Emma Lamb have all been selected for the first time in the Test squad.
South Africa Women will be lead by bowling all-rounder Sune Luus across this Test and the three WODIs which follow. This will be South Africa Women’s first Test since November 2014 when they lost by an innings and 34 runs to India Women in Mysore and their first Test against England Women since 2003 when they were beaten by an innings and 96 runs in Taunton. There are ten players in their 16 women squad who have never played a long format international. That said, they have plenty of experience in WT20I and WODI cricket and have been playing very well in those formats.
The match will be played at the County Ground, Taunton. We expect to see a friendly batting wicket which will do more for the spinners as the game progresses.
