England vs Pakistan 3rd Test
England’s final test of a very unusual, shortened summer sees them take on Pakistan for the third time. After a virtually washed-out second test, England carry a 1-0 lead into the third test at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl. The third test takes place from August 21 to August 25 and the live action gets underway at 11:00 each day.
England overturned a 107-run deficit at the halfway point in the first test to claim a stunning three-wicket win. Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler batted England to victory. Stuart Broad was again in excellent bowling form, meanwhile, and that continued as he took 4-56 last time out. James Anderson also returned to form with three wickets. England were 110/4 in reply to Pakistan’s 236 when the second test was curtailed.
For Pakistan, Shan Masood hit 156 in the first test but they lost despite their big lead at the halfway point and Yasir Shah taking eight wickets across the test. Mohammad Rizwan prevented a batting collapse last time out, and their pace attack caught the eye in favourable conditions, but Pakistan need consistency and more luck with the weather if they are to win this third and final test.

While the forecast is much better, conditions at the start and end of this test could still mean disruptions.

ENG Team News
With Ben Stokes returning home for personal reasons, Zak Crawley returned to the batting line-up last time out and hit a half-century to prove his worth. Sam Curran replaced Jofra Archer, and the big question now revolves around the England bowling line-up – Stuart Broad and James Anderson both bowled brilliantly last time out so it could be an unchanged attack.
ENG Key Players
- Stuart Broad: After some stunning bowling form in the last two tests against West Indies, he has ten wickets in this series following his 4-56 last time out.
- James Anderson: Had a point to prove last time out and proved it, taking 3-60 to move to 593 test wickets in his career.
- Chris Woakes: Key to England’s victory in the first test, he took four wickets in that test and then led the hosts to victory with his batting.

- Mohammad Abbas: Took two wickets last time out in the brief bit of play allowed and was especially good with the new ball.
- Yasir Shah: The leg-spinner took eight wickets in the first test – four in each innings – and also claimed another from his 11 overs last time out.

There were a few positives last time out, Abid Ali and Mohammad Rizwan hitting half-centuries and Mohammad Abbas bowling well, but the weather meant there was never going to be enough time for a result.
