England and New Zealand begin their three-Test Match series at Lord’s in London on Thursday morning. England have a new coach in former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and a new captain in all-rounder Ben Stokes. New Zealand arrive as the World Test Champions. Read on as we preview this opening Test. The match begins at 11:00 local time.
England begin their summer fixtures after a miserable 2021 and early part of 2022. However, under the new leadership on and off the pitch, they will be bringing a new attitude and energy to the field.
New Zealand beat England in a Test at Lord’s last summer and are the current World Test Champions. However, they have already been beaten by South Africa and Bangladesh in Tests this year.

With the weather set fine for the first couple of days of the Test, we expect both skippers will want to bat first should they win the toss ahead of this game.
There has been plenty of rain in the North London areas over the last week so expect there to be some moisture in the pitch. The surface very rarely offers a great deal for spin bowlers and we expect the same in this Test/
The first two days of the Test should be rain free however we expect to see interruptions on days 3, 4 and 5. High of 21 degrees on Thursday and Friday but a bit cooler for the rest of the match.

In his first game as full-time Test captain, Ben Stokes is expected to give a Test debut to fellow Durham player, bowler Matty Potts. This Test should also see the return of experienced right arm pace bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad to the England side.
England have won only one and lost 11 of their last 17 Tests. Although they are under new leadership, the Test squad features many of the same names seen in previous defeats.

Skipper Kane Williamson will return to lead New Zealand in this Test after missing the series against South Africa earlier this year. As a result, Tom Latham will return to the ranks as an opening batter and Daryl Mitchell drops out of the XI. Expect Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee to lead the bowling attack in the absence of Trent Boult.
New Zealand were heavily beaten by South Africa by 198 runs at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch at the end of February. However, they have not lost either of their Test series so far this year.
