Eastern Storm will take on Mpumalanga Rhinos at Buffalo Park, East London. Match 4 in Pool A of the CSA Provincial T20 Cup 2022/23 begins at 13:45 local time on Saturday 1st October.

Storm lost their opening game of the season on Friday after posting 142-5 against South Africa U-19s in Pietermaritzburg. Although they won the toss, Storm were beaten with 24 balls remaining and now have an uphill struggle to qualify out of Pool A.

Captain Matthew Arnold top scored for Eastern Storm on Friday morning. He hit 55 not out from 39 balls, an innings which included three fours and one six. Aron Visser (20 runs from 25 balls) and Shane Dadswell (31 runs from 18 balls) also made useful contributions.

ES Bowling

Shane Dadswell and Neo Felane both took two wickets with Tumelo Simelane dismissing one batter in the defeat against South Africa U-19s. Right arm medium fast Dadswell picked up the wickets of two of the top three batters but conceded an average of 9.66 runs.

ES Form

Eastern Storm lost two successive matches at the end of the 2021 group stage and that run has now extended to three defeats.

Mpumalanga Rhinos

The Rhinos registered zero wins in the competition last year and were well beaten by Tuskers on Friday afternoon at the City Oval. They posted 153-6 from their 20 over but it was proved to be 30 runs or so under par and they lost the game with four overs remaining.

MPR Batting

Keeper batter Rubin Hermann and Jurie Snyman both scored half-centuries for the Rhinos and shared a fourth wicket partnership of 80 runs. Snyman’s innings was the most impressive, his 52 runs came from only 30 balls and included four fours and four sixes.

MPR Bowling

The Rhinos took only three wickets as Tuskers cruised to victory in Match 2 of Pool A. Opening bowler Jurie Snyman took 1-23 from his three overs with right arm fast medium bowler Jon Hinrichsen leading the attack and taking 2-23 from his overs.

MPR Form

Last year’s tournament was a struggle for Mpumalanga Rhinos and they were completely outplayed for large periods of Friday afternoon’s match.
