After concluding the 2021 campaign with two defeats, Eastern Cape missed out on the chance to get off to a winning start when the Cape derby with Northern Cape was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Friday afternoon. The players should still be fresh ahead of this match.

Marco Marais averages 33.28 in this format and has a top score of 118 not-out. He has an excellent record across all formats of domestic cricket and Eastern Cape are expecting him to lead the batting. 21 year old Nonelela Yikha is a player who many are expecting to have a strong future in T20 cricket.

ECI Bowling

Right arm medium pacer Joshua Dodd is a very accurate bowler and, although he will concede runs, he will also pick up plenty of wickets in this competition. Left-arm spinner Tumelo Simelane very rarely ends games wicketless and he bowls in a very attacking manner.

Eastern Cape have not won a game in this competition since their opening match of the 2021 season.

Limpopo

Limpopo’s clash with South Western Districts was also rained off without a ball bowled on Friday. They lost all three games in the 2021 campaign but the talk around the team is that they are expecting to finish in the top two places in Pool B.

LIM Batting

25 year old batting all-rounder Ruan Haasbroek has scored one century in his senior career but has not done so in white ball cricket. However, he has a high average and scores consistent runs for Limpopo in short formats. Left-hander Liam Peters is also a clean hitting batter.

LIM Bowling

Captain Thomas Hobson is capable of contributing with both bat and ball and his overs will be very hard to take large totals from. 19 year old leg-spinner Khaif Patel is a bit of an unknown quantity but he will turn the ball and we expect batters to take risks against him.

LIM Form

We are still waiting to see how Limpopo perform in this format this season but we expect to see them put in stronger performances this year.
