Who will win WPL 2024

The Women's Premier League is back for the 2nd season after a successful inaugural season in 2023. The teams were reshuffled a little in the WPL 2024 auction which took place in December 2023. With new changes, the 5 franchise teams are back to face each other one more time in this competitive T20 league for women cricketers.

The 2024 edition of the WPL will be held across 2 venues. The first leg of the season, 11 matches, will take place in Bengaluru and the remaining 11 will be held in Delhi including the final on 17th March 2024.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians will face 2023 runners-up Delhi Capitals in the season opener match on 23rd February 2024.

Top Contender to win WPL 2024

After our analysis, we are backing Mumbai Indians Women to win the WPL trophy again in 2024. They were confident enough with their squad and did not make big changes in the WPL auction.

Their strength lies in their line-up of quality all-rounders right from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. She did not bowl in the first season but has 32 international wickets to her name in T20I.

England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt played a match-winning knock of 60 off 55 in the final match and won the player of the match award. She scored 332 runs and picked 10 wickets in 10 matches. She will be a key player for MI in the upcoming season. West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews won the Most Valuable Player award last season. She won the purple cap for taking 16 wickets and scored 271 runs at a strike rate of 126.04.

New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was also impressive in the last season. She scored 149 runs at a strike rate of 133.03 and picked 15 wickets at an impressive average of 14.06.

The lethal combination of these all-rounders along with other remarkable talent like Yastika Bhatia, Issy Wong, Shabnim Ismail, Chloe Tryon, Pooja Vastrakar and Amandeep Kaur in the bowling and batting line-up are going to be a difficult side to beat.

They finished at the 2nd spot on the points table with 6 wins in 8 matches and then won the eliminator match against UP Warriorz before defeating Delhi Capitals in the final match.

What worked for Mumbai Indians is the combination of quality all-rounders. In the first season, MI’s Hayley Matthews won the Most Valuable Player award for scoring 271 runs and picking 16 wickets in 10 matches. She was the highest wicket taker of the season and won the purple cap for it. Another key player in the bowling line-up will be Issy Wong who impressed everyone in the first season. Captain: Smriti Mandhana
Key Players: Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Kate Cross, Ekta Bisht

RCB Women signed Smriti Mandhana for a staggering price of INR 3.40 crore in the first season of WPL. There were big expectations from this team after securing big names like Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight, Sophie Devine, Richa Ghosh but it all went in vain for them as the team failed to advance to the playoffs. They were at the 4th spot on the table with 2 wins in 8 matches.

RCB was not that impressive with the ball in the WPL 2023 edition. They have roped in new players in the latest auction to strengthen their bowling line-up. We are backing Kate Cross and Ekta Bisht from their new signings as the top-picks for the bowling unit of RCB women. Bisht has played 42 T20Is in which she has picked 53 wickets at an average of 14.71. England bowler Kate Cross has played various international matches and leagues and we are expecting a season from her at RCB Women camp.
