Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Test Series 2017 Preview

Sri Lanka

Rangana Herath will be leading the Sri Lankan test team in place of Angelo Mathews who has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Batsmen Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne have earned a call-up while opening batsman Kaushal Silva and Kusal Perera have been omitted from the squad.

Sri Lanka's batting in the test series will depend mainly on Dinesh Chandimal who is their most experienced batsman and the leading run-scorer in the format from the current squad. There will also be a lot of expectations from Asela Gunaratne and Niroshan Dickwella, both of whom have had success in the limited-overs format over the past month. When it comes to bowling, the hosts will look to none other than Rangana Herath who is Sri Lanka's second-highest wicket-taker in test cricket. Fast bowler Suranga Lakmal was impressive in the South Africa test series picking up 12 wickets and he will be backed by the team to make some early inroads into the Bangladeshi batting lineup.

Bangladesh

Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has recovered from injury and has returned to the test squad along with pacer Rubel Hossain. Opening batsman Imrul Kayes has yet to recover from a thigh injury and is likely to miss the entire series.

Bangladesh will have their hopes pinned on Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim to deliver the goods with the bat. Tamim is their leading run-getter in the format while Mushfiqur struck a valuable century in Bangladesh's most recent test against India. Shakib Al Hasan is expected to play a big role with the bat and the ball. The allrounder has 167 test wickets to his name - the most by any Bangladeshi bowler and he will be the key for his team on these spin-friendly Sri Lankan pitches. Another bowler that Bangladesh will rely on is offspinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz who has been impressive having taken 25 wickets in a short career of 5 matches.

SL vs BAN Test Series 2017 Prediction

There have been a total of 7 bilateral test series between the two nations in the past of which 6 have consisted of two matches each, and Bangladesh will be well aware that they have never been able to beat Sri Lanka in any of those series. Leave alone winning, they have never even managed to draw a series against them. The last time Bangladesh toured Sri Lanka in 2013, they did eke out a draw in the first game of the two-match series but went down in the next one to lose the series 0-1.

However, this time around, the tourists will be more optimistic as the hosts will be without many of their senior players including Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Dilshan in addition to have lost their regular skipper Mathews to injury. But Bangladesh will still have to be at their best if they are to have any outside chance of a win or a draw. Sri Lanka have shown brilliant form in test cricket at home. They recently thrashed Australia 0-3 and we predict them to clean sweep Bangladesh here as well.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh ODI Series 2017 Preview

Sri Lanka

Angelo Mathews is likely to return and take over the captaincy from Rangana Herath for the limited overs leg of the tournament. Though Sri Lanka have not announced their ODI squad, Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne seem to be certain picks since both of them had a good last series in South Africa. Suranga Lakmal would be an obvious selection for Sri Lanka's bowling attack. The pacer has taken 80 wickets in this format and he was the most impressive of all the bowlers against South Africa.

Bangladesh

Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal would be an automatic selection for the ODI series. He has scored the most number of runs for Bangladesh in this format and he is going to be the key man with the bat for this three-match series. Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan is another key member in the side who has the ability to change the course of the match with both the bat and the ball. He is Bangladesh's leading ODI wicket-taker and a good performance is expected of him on these turning Sri Lankan pitches.

SL vs BAN ODI Series 2017 Prediction

Bangladesh have never won a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka, whether at home or on the latter's turf. The two teams have met in six three-match bilateral ODI series in the past with Sri Lanka emerging winners in five of them which includes four whitewashes.

However, Bangladesh managed to draw the series 1-1 the last time they visited Sri Lanka in 2012/13 and this might give them some confidence ahead of the series. Bangladesh, of late, have been very good in the 50-overs format at home but they are yet to earn a reputation of being equally formidable away from home. Sri Lanka may have lost their last three bilateral ODI series in a row but we predict them to put an to their losing streak by securing a series win over Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh T20 Series 2017 Preview

Sri Lanka

Niroshan Dickwella has been doing a good job with the bat in limited overs format. He topped the most runs charts in the T20 series against South Africa, making him a likely selection for this T20 series. Contributions from Angelo Mathews will be vital towards the business end of the innings. With five wickets each, pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara and left-arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan stood out as the pick of the lot in that T20 series and they will be Sri Lanka's best bets with the ball in this forthcoming series against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan are the top two run-getters for Bangladesh in 20-overs cricket and they are almost certain to be picked for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Mahmudullah scored a fifty in Bangladesh's last T20 series in New Zealand and he too is likely to find his name on the roster. Shakib, once again, will pose the biggest threat for the Sri Lankan batsmen with the ball. He is the leading wicket-taker in T20s for Bangladesh with 67 wickets from 57 matches.

SL vs BAN T20 Series 2017 Prediction

Sri Lanka have played Bangladesh in only two bilateral T20 series till date. They won the one-off T20 at home in 2012/13 and then won 2-0 in a two-match series on their tour of Bangladesh one year later in 2013/14.

Bangladesh have not been as good in the 20-overs format as they have been in the ODIs. They have won just one of their past 13 T20 series, and that too was a one-off contest against Pakistan at home in 2015. Sri Lanka on the other hand will be coming with two consecutive series wins over South Africa and Australia respectively. So the momentum is going to be with the hosts and we therefore predict them to beat Bangladesh in this T20 series.
