Punjab Kings has been part of IPL since its start in 2008. It was earlier named Kings XI Punjab but after a revamp in 2021, the name was changed to Punjab Kings.

Agarwal was released by PBKS before the IPL auction and within a few weeks the team announced that batsman Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side in the 2023 season.

Australian cricket coach Trevor Bayliss is the head coach of Punjab Kings. Bayliss was the coach of the England team when they won the ICC World Cup in 2019.

Punjab Kings picked some of the best T20 players in the IPL mega auction before 2022. They looked strong on the stats but couldn’t keep consistency in winning the matches.

In the IPL 2023 auction, Punjab Kings got the headlines for winning the most expensive bid in the IPL auctions. PBKS roped in the England all-rounder Sam Curran for INR 18.50 crore, making him the most expensive player ever in the history of IPL. Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza is also added to the PBKS squad for INR 50 lakhs. Raza has been impressing us all from last year with his all-rounder abilities. With his match-winning gameplay, Zimbabwe was able to beat the dangerous Pakistan side in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Kings have released their captain from the last season, Mayank Agarwal who didn’t perform well. Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the new captain of the team as a transition.
