Who will win West Indies vs India, 1st T20?
West Indies and India face each other in Lauderhill, Florida, as India kick off their tour of the Caribbean with a brief sojourn to the United States. The match takes place on August 3 and the live action begins at 10:30 local time.
India have travelled with a strong squad, including captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who will want to put suggestions of a falling out – which they have both strongly rebuked – to bed with a strong performance on the field.
West Indies will be led by Carlos Brathwaite, meanwhile, and have also named a strong squad – including rising stars Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicolas Pooran. After a disappointing World Cup, they may feel they have something to prove in this series.

WI vs IND Toss Prediction
During West Indies’ last matches in Florida, against Bangladesh, the Tigers were happy to bat first on both occasions. This could be a chance for Virat Kohli to elect to bat and for Rohit Sharma to put West Indies’ bowlers to the sword.
WI vs IND Weather Report
The weather forecast for Lauderhill does not look good, with scattered thunderstorms and muggy conditions expected all day. This could be a stop-start day of cricket in Florida.
WI vs IND Pitch Condition
Anil Kumble was highly complimentary of the Lauderhill wicket and facilities when India last travelled to Florida and it could be a similar story as cricket continues to grow Stateside.

West Indies Team News & Playing 11
WI Team News
Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard have been recalled to West Indies’ T20i squad – with both set to leave the Global T20 Canada to link up with the national team. Chris Gayle will stay in Canada, however, and instead wait until the ODI series. Uncapped wicket-keeper-batsman Anthony Bramble is in the squad but likely to play second fiddle to Nicholas Pooran, while Andre Russell faces a fitness test on his knee injury.
WI Key Players
Nicholas Pooran: Ended the World Cup in superb batting form and will join the West Indies in Florida having honed his T20 form with some big-hitting for Yorkshire in the Vitality Blast. His T20 strike rate of 146.71 tells you all you need to know.
Sheldon Cottrell: The saluting left-arm seam bowler has become a popular figure in this West Indies’ team, and the 29-year-old will look to take his World Cup form into the shortest format. He has 20 wickets in 13 previous T20i appearances.
Andre Russell: If fit, the West Indian all-rounder will be a huge dangerman with bat and ball. He was outstanding at the IPL – his most recent T20 engagement – with his form in that tournament, and explosive batting, earning him an international recall.
WI Team Form
West Indies were whitewashed in their most recent T20 series, losing all three matches against England in March. That included being bowled out for 71 in a crushing eight-wicket defeat in the final game of the series in Basseterre.
They also lost 3-0 when they last faced India, in India, but beat Bangladesh 2-1 in between.
West Indies Predicted Playing 11
John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Carlos Brathwaite (c), Kieron Pollard, Sheldon Cottrell, Khary Pierre, Oshane Thomas

IND Team News
MS Dhoni will miss the tour of West Indies and the United States as he is serving with the Territorial Army instead. With the 38-year-old unavailable, Rishabh Pant will be behind the stumps instead. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are being rested for the limited-overs matches. After impressing in the IPL, Rahul Chahar could be in line for a debut, as could Navdeep Saini. Washington Sunder and Deepak Chahar have been recalled to the T20i squad, meanwhile. Shikhar Dhawan is fit again.
IND Key Players
Rohit Sharma: In stunning form at the Cricket World Cup, hammering five centuries in an astonishing display of batting, while his ability in the shortest format is well known too – he has a T20i strike rate of 137.68 and has hit 309 boundaries in just 86 innings.
Virat Kohli: The India captain did not score a century at the World Cup, but he still continued his excellent batting form with five consecutive half-centuries. While his T20i average is lower than the other two formats, it is still above 50, having hit 20 half-centuries in 62 innings.
Deepak Chahar: Earned a T20i comeback after finishing the IPL as the leading Indian wicket-taker, with 22 from 17 matches to help the Chennai Super Kings reach the final.
IND Team Form
India are without a win in their last three bilateral WI vs IND T20 series, having won six in a row before that. They drew with Australia away, lost 2-1 to New Zealand and then lost both matches on Australia’s tour of India most recently.
India lost a low-scoring thriller first up – they posted 126/7 but Australia won off the final ball, despite Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-16. Next up, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 72 from 38 balls helped them to 190/4, but Australia chased it down to win by seven wickets with two balls to spare.
