New Zealand Women are favourites to win
West Indies Women will take on New Zealand Women in the third WODI at The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The third and final WODI match begins at 09:30 local time on Sunday 25th September.
With the series already lost, West Indies Women will be playing for pride and with one eye on the coming WIT20 series in this game. Both fixtures have been close in the series and West Indies Women have not been far away from winning both matches.
Skipper Hayley Matthews top scored with 46 runs from 82 balls in the second WODI on Thursday. Although it was a slow paced innings and included only two boundaries, it was once again required after the top order batters had failed to produce many runs.
Shamilia Connell and Hayley Matthews were the only two West Indies Women players to not pick up any wickets in Thursday’s game. Although both bowled with impressive control, they were unable to dismiss any batters unlike Shakera Selman who took 2-30 and Karishma Ramharack who took 3-22.
Although they have lost this series and their last three WODIs, this West Indies Women side are not far away from turning defeats into victories.
The White Ferns will be full of confidence after securing the series with a two wicket win on Thursday in Antigua. Although they were running out of wickets, they still had 59 balls remaining in the second WODI and they have a long batting line-up.
The team management will have been pleased to see their batting line-up chase down a tricky target on a tough batting surface without openers, Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, contributing many runs. Instead it was Maddy Green (48) who top scored with Lauren Down (33) also making useful runs.
It was a fine performance from New Zealand Women’s bowlers in Antigua in the second WODI on Thursday. Of the seven bowlers used, only all-rounder Suzie Bates did not dismiss a batter and it was Eden Carson who stood out with 3-22 on her WODI debut.
New Zealand Women are targeting their fourth successive WODI victory. When you combine their performance in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, you can certainly make an argument that they are playing excellent cricket.
The match will be played at The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. It is a tough batting wicket in Antigua with not much pace or bounce. Any score over 200 will be very hard to chase down.
