Who will win Vancouver Knights vs Edmonton Royals, Global T20 Canada 2019?
Defending champions Vancouver Knights need to beat Edmonton Royals at the CAA Centre, Brampton, to keep their 2019 Global T20 Canada play-off ambitions on track. The match, which takes place on August 2, starts at 12:30 local time.
Vancouver have one win to their name so far, though it would have been more had the rain not intervened last time out – they posted a monstrous 276/3 from their 20 overs against Montreal Tigers. The Knights will be keen to pick up where they left off.
For Edmonton, meanwhile, it is now three games without a win and anything less than victory in this match would spell the end of their slim play-off hopes. They had left Montreal needing 18 to win off the last over their most recent match, but Jimmy Neesham could not defend it. Another morale blow will have hit them hard ahead of this fixture.

VCK vs EDR Toss Prediction
Edmonton Royals have lost all three tosses so far, so the law of averages says they will win this one. They are likely to follow trend and field first if they do – though Vancouver did excel last time they were asked to bat.
VCK vs EDR Weather Report
Clear skies, no clouds, very little wind and absolutely zero chance of rain means Friday will be a perfect day for cricket in Brampton.
VCK vs EDR Pitch Condition
After a day’s break in the tournament, more wickets fell last time out than had previously but the pitch is likely to still be good for batting as the tournament goes on.

Vancouver Knights Team News & Playing 11
VCK Team News
Undeterred by their defeat to Winnipeg Hawks, Vancouver were unchanged last time out and – with Chris Gayle committed to this GT20 Canada 2019 tournament rather than West Indies’ T20I series with India – they are likely to be unchanged again. Andre Russell is with the West Indies.
VCK Key Players
Chris Gayle: The West Indian plundered 12 sixes and seven fours in his 54-ball innings last time out, with his unbeaten 122 rolling back the clock and reminding everybody he can still be lethal at the top of the order.
Rassie van der Dussen: While obviously outshone by his captain, the South African’s form is showing no sign of slowing either. He hit 56 from 25 balls, including five sixes, to move to 160 runs in three innings in this tournament.
Tobias Visee: The wicket-keeper-batsman proved an excellent foil for Gayle last time out. He hit 12 boundaries in his 19-ball innings to score 51 in his brief innings. It was a reminder of the form he showed for the Dutch in Oman earlier this year.
VCK Team Form
Vancouver Knights started their title defence with a dominant win against Toronto Nationals, chasing 160 to win in just 17.2 overs, as Rassie van der Dussen’s unbeaten 65 led them to an eight-wicket victory.
They posted 208/5 from their 20 overs against Winnipeg Hawks next up, but their bowlers came in for some punishment as they lost by seven wickets in just 15.2 overs. They bounced back well, as Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten 122 from 54 balls to lead them to a stunning 276/3 last time out, but rain prevented any further play as they had to share the points with Montreal.
Vancouver Knights Predicted Playing 11

Edmonton Royals Team News & Playing 11
EDR Team News
Satsimranjit Dhindsa replaced Akash Gill last time out in the only change Edmonton have made so far in this tournament but it did not end their losing streak. Kane Williamson has not featured in the tournament despite being one of the Royals’ more eye-catching draft picks.
EDR Key Players
Faf du Plessis: Needed to build on two good starts last time out and did exactly that – the South African captain hit 55 from 20 balls to top-score for the Royals. They were 79/2 from 6.4 overs when he was dismissed – his team-mates did not back it up.
Kyle Phillip: Claimed 4-38 last time out and bowled a brilliant penultimate over, only for Montreal to hit the 18 they needed off the final over anyway. The USA international now has five wickets in the tournament but will want to bring his economy rate down.
Ben Cutting: Has fallen short with the bat in his last two innings, after a breezy unbeaten 43 in the opening game, but he has bowled economically so far – as well as picking up three wickets. He has experience across the franchise game, including the Big Bash and IPL this year.
EDR Team Form
Edmonton Royals have played three and lost all three so far. They failed to defend 191/6 against Toronto in their opening game, losing by two wickets in 17.5 overs in a match that had been reduced to 19 overs per side.
The Royals then fell short chasing 208 to beat Brampton Wolves next up, eventually finishing on 180/9, and their score of 153 against Montreal proved too little last time out too. They looked incontention despite the low score, until the Tigers hit the 18 they needed to win off the first four balls of the final over.
Edmonton Royals Predicted Playing 11
Navneet Dhaliwal, Richie Berrington, Faf du Plessis (c), Mohammad Hafeez, Jimmy Neesham, Ben Cutting, Shadab Khan, Anshuman Rath (wk), Safyaan Sharif, Satsimranjit Dhindsa, Kyle Phillip
Vancouver Knights vs Edmonton Royals Head to Head
This will be the first match between the two teams after last year’s fixture fell foul of the weather.
🏆 Vancouver Knights vs Edmonton Royals Prediction
Vancouver Knights were excellent with the bat last time out and unlucky to be denied by the rain. They can get back to winning ways against winless Edmonton Royals.
Final Verdict: Back Vancouver Knights to beat Edmonton Royals
