  • Tshwane Spartans and Cape Town Blitz may be frustrated by the Centurion rain as they look to conclude their Mzansi Super League group-stage campaigns.
  • The Spartans need a win to keep their play-off hopes alive, having seen four matches fall foul of the weather so far. They have won three and lost two of their other five, including defeat when these teams last met.
  • Dale Steyn bowled the Blitz to victory in that game, recording figures of 3-10 from his four overs, but it is their only win in their last five games - form which has seen last year's finalists drop to fifth in the table.

Who will win Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz, MSL 2019?

Tshwane Spartans and Cape Town Blitz are scheduled to conclude their MSL 2.0 league phase campaigns at Centurion on December 8. The match is scheduled to start at 14:00 local time but the bad weather means the game, at SuperSport Park, might be the latest to fall foul of the weather.

Tshwane Spartans have already had four matches fall victim to the bad weather this season and they need the forecast thunderstorms to abate as they look for the win that will keep them on track for a play-off spot.

Cape Town Blitz, though they won last time these teams met, have otherwise lost four of their last five matches. Dale Steyn took 3-10 as they beat the Spartans – one of two defeats Tshwane have suffered this season – but Cape Town Blitz sit fifth overall with four wins and five defeats to their name.

Tshwane Spartans Team News & Playing 11

TS Team News

After a handy opening partnership, Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder could continue at the top of the order together. That would mean Dean Elgar and Theunis de Bruyn missing out, while at least one of Corbin Bosch and Waqar Salamkheil could continue in the bowling attack.

TS Key Players

AB de Villiers: The South African legend hit 63 from 38 balls last time out – his third half-century of the tournament – to continuing proving his everlasting class with the bat.

Pite van Biljon: Scored 62 when these teams last met and has 122 runs in total – enough to earn a promotion up the batting order.

Morne Morkel: In between the rain, the giant paceman has led the Spartans’ bowling attack with ten wickets so far, including an economical 1-21 when these teams last met.

TS Team Form

Tshwane Spartans have suffered with the rain, but two defeats in their last two completed matches have hampered their efforts too. They lost to Cape Town Blitz when these teams last met to end their winning start – Pite van Biljon’s 62 only enough to lift them to 142/7 chasing 158 to win. Wiaan Mulder (52) and AB de Villiers (63) helped them to 188/5 in the next game against Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, but they had no answer to Ben Dunk in reply as they lost by six wickets with two balls to spare.

Tshwane Spartans Predicted Playing 11

Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi, AB de Villiers, Heinrich Klaasen (c, wk), Pite van Biljon, Roelof van der Merwe, Tom Curran, Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch, Lutho Sipamla

CTB Key Players

Janneman Malan: Having started the tournament with an unbeaten 99 in the win against Jozi Stars, the big-hitting opener has been back to his best in recent matches – scoring 75, 36 and 60 in his last three innings.

Quinton de Kock: Though he is yet to score a half-century in this year’s tournament, the big-hitting wicket-keeper-batsman has scored well at the top of the order – adding 40 from 19 balls to his tally last time out. He has 235 runs in total so far.

Wahab Riaz: The Pakistani left-arm paceman is even more important in Dale Steyn’s absence. He took 3-19 last time out, having claimed 2-18 when these teams last met – those two performances clearly showing his return to top bowling form.

CTB Team Form

Cape Town Blitz ended their losing streak when they last played Tshwane Spartans – Dale Steyn (3-10) and Wahab Riaz (2-18) helping to bowl them to victory as they posted 157/5 and won by 15 runs. Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz Betting Odds

If the rain abates, Tshwane Spartans will start this match as 1.72 favourites with Bet365, while Cape Town Blitz are priced at 2.10 to win.

In-form AB de Villiers is 2.50 to be the Spartans’ top batsman, while Wiaan Mulder is 5.00 after opening and scoring a half-century last time out. Pite van Biljon was their top batsman when these teams last met and he is 7.00 with Bet365. For Cape Town Blitz, in-form Janneman Malan is 4.00 with Bet365, while opening partner Quinton de Kock is favourite at 3.00.

With the ball, Morne Morkel is 4.00 favourite with Bet365 to be the Spartans’ top team bowler, while Tom Curran is 4.33 and Lungi Ngidi is 4.50. Dale Steyn missed the Blitz’s last match through injury, so Wahab Riaz is well worth considering at 4.33 to be their top team bowler with Bet365.

Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz Prediction

Tshwane Spartans may have lost to Cape Town Blitz last time out, but with AB de Villiers at the top of the order they are capable of bouncing back – their biggest concern will be if the weather allows them to.

Final Verdict

Back Tshwane Spartans to beat Cape Town Blitz at 1.72 with Bet365.

TS vs CTB Dream11 Prediction

Quinton de Kock is 10.5 credits but he looks the better option of the two wicket-keeper-batsmen/team captains, ahead of Heinrich Klaasen. Pite van Biljon is also listed for the Spartans, at just eight credits, and his form could make him worth considering – particularly as he has now been pushed up the order.

He may cost 11 credits but there is no looking beyond AB de Villiers with the bat, his three half-centuries showing why he is a must-pick. Janneman Malan is excellent value considering his form, meanwhile – he costs just 8.5 credits and top-scored again last time out. For the final place, you are gambling on team selection a little. Tony de Zorzi opened for the Spartans last time out and, at eight credits, he helps to balance cost too.

Liam Livingstone’s batting form makes him worth picking too, though his bowling does not really justify the all-rounder tag. Wiaan Mulder opened for the Spartans last time out, meanwhile, making him good value at 8.5 credits, and Roelof van der Merwe remains a key all-rounder too.

With Dale Steyn injured, Wahab Riaz becomes an even more important cog in this Cape Town Blitz bowling attack. He is nine credits and likely to be key. You can afford any of the bowlers, and Vernon Philander and Lungi Ngidi also come in at nine credits, as does Tom Curran. Sisanda Magala and Morne Morkel, both at 8.5 credits, have outperformed them so far, however.

AB de Villiers continues to churn out big innings after big innings and the Tshwane Spartans man could be key with the bat once again. Wahab Riaz has hit good bowling form, meanwhile – five wickets in his last two games points to more success if the weather allows this time out, and he could be worth selecting as vice-captain.
