Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors, CPL 2020
The 2020 Caribbean Premier League starts in style at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, as the two tournament favourites – Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors – go head-to-head in the opening game. The match takes place on August 18 and the live action starts at 10:00 local time.
Trinbago Knight Riders, the winners in 2015, 2017 and 2018, finished third last season. They lost both group games to Guyana Amazon Warriors and eventually succumbed in the play-offs to Barbados Tridents. They had previously beaten the Amazon Warriors in the 2018 final. They start this year’s tournament as joint-favourites, however, with a strong squad and key players back in contention after injury-ravaged 2019 campaigns.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have never won the tournament but have finished as runners-up in each of the last two seasons and five out of seven in total. They are without captain Shoaib Malik but some key players remain from last season – Chandrapaul Hemraj starred in both wins against the Knight Riders, while Brandon King was the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
