SYT vs BRH Prediction & Betting Tips, BBL 2020

Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat meet in their respective second games of the 2020-21 Big Bash League, as both look to bounce back from an opening defeat. Both teams lost their opening games in Canberra to Melbourne Stars, and now face each other at the same venue, the Manuka Oval, on December 14. The live action starts at 19:15 local time.

The Thunder, who finished fifth in the group stage last year and then third overall, hit 147/9 last time out after Callum Ferguson’s half-century, but it was nowhere near their target of 170 as they crashed to a 22-run loss.

Brisbane Heat, meanwhile, who are looking to improve on last season’s seventh-placed finish, fared even worse with the bat. They crashed to 125 all out in their opening game and lost to the Stars by six wickets with 2.5 overs to spare. The only real positive was two debut wickets for Jack Wood.

Sydney Thunder Team News & Playing 11

SYT Team News

Tanveer Sangha made his T20 debut last time out and was in the wickets from the off. He is likely to retain his place this time around. Sam Billings is a late arrival at the tournament, but the Thunder otherwise have a strong squad available to them.

SYT Key Players

  • Callum Ferguson: The Thunder captain led from the front last time out but lacked support from his team-mates as he hit 54 from 35 balls with the bat.
  • Alex Hales: With no England return on the cards, the big-hitting opener can make his mark in BBL 2020. He hit 46 last time out.
  • Daniel Sams: Last season’s top wicket-taker in the tournament started in similar form this time around, taking 2-24 from his three overs.

SYT Team Form

Sydney Thunder were third last time out, having finished fifth in the group stage. They started with a defeat this time around, however. Chasing 170 to beat Melbourne Stars, despite wickets from Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha and Chris Green, they fell short on 147/9. Callum Ferguson hit 54 but lacked support.

BRH Team News

Mujeeb Ur Rahman is out of hospital and out of quarantine, and the young Afghan leg-spinner. Mark Steketee and Jack Wildermuth are also possible returnees, as they await their return from the Australia ‘A’ match at the SCG.

BRH Key Players

  • Chris Lynn: The captain hit some poor form in T20 cricket as he failed to make his mark in the Caribbean Premier League. If he returns to form, however, so will the Heat.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman: The Afghan spinner’s arrival will be a huge bonus, given his burgeoning reputation in T20 cricket.
  • Dan Lawrence: The Englishman could prove an excellent signing if he hits the sort of big-hitting batting form he has showcased for Essex.

BRH Team Form

Brisbane Heat finished seventh last season and a young side suffered a crushing defeat first up this season too. The Heat were bowled out for 125, with Tom Cooper’s 26 their top score, and Melbourne Stars raced to a six-wicket defeat with 17 balls to spare.

Brisbane Heat Predicted Playing 11

Max Bryant, Jack Wildermuth, Chris Lynn (c), Dan Lawrence, Tom Cooper, Jimmy Peirson (wk), Simon Milenko, Jack Wood, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Matthew Kuhnemann, Ben Laughlin
