Sussex Vs Somerset Preview & Prediction

Jim Allenby and Peter Trego were involved in a 134-run partnership for the second wicket as Somerset went on to post 197 in 20 overs. Allenby's 91 came off just 59 balls, but his valiant effort went in vain as the total was chased down comfortably by Kent in the end. Somerset have signed up Chris Gayle and Mahela Jayawardene who could open the batting on Wednesday. Gayle was the star for them last year, scoring 328 runs in the three innings that he had played in the tournament and he will be the best top-batsman bet.

Their bowling will need to improve as they ended up being on the losing side despite putting up a big total. Kent wrapped up the match with just two wickets down and 16 balls to spare. Tim Groenewald and Roelof van der Merwe were the only wicket-takers for Somerset with one wicket apiece. Though Yasir Arafat went for plenty in his three overs, he is a wicket-taking bowler from Pakistan and should make for a good top-bowler bet.

Although they won by just 1 run in their last match, a win's a win and Sussex Sharks will go into the match against Somerset with their heads held high. As for Somerset, their lackluster bowling performance against Kent which led to their defeat have raised a lot of questions. However, T20 cricket is more about batting and Somerset will become one of the best batting sides in this competition after the inclusion of Gayle and Jayawardene. Also, if Yasir Arafat returns to form on Wednesday, it will get all the more difficult for Sussex to win.

Sussex are a very strong unit with the likes of Ross Taylor, Mustafizur Rahman and David Wiese in their side. But in our opinion, Somerset are the favorites to win the match.
