Who will win Sussex Sharks vs Essex Eagles, Vitality Blast 2019?
South Group leaders Sussex Sharks, who were beaten in the final last year, welcome Essex Eagles to the County Ground, Hove, on August 22. The live action is scheduled to begin at 19:00.
The Sharks have been in dominant form, but their unbeaten start did end in their most recently completed game in the competition – a defeat to Surrey. They have still won six and drawn one of their eight completed games, however, and will be keen to get back to winning ways as they look to top the group.
Essex Eagles, meanwhile, know anything less than a win will end any lingering quarter-final hopes they still have. Four defeats and four rained-off games have left them four points behind fourth place, but this is a game in hand for the Eagles and a chance to cut that gap to two.

SUS vs ESS Weather Report
The weather forecast for Hove on Thursday is excellent – sunny all day with not a drop of rain and barely a cloud in the sky too.
SUS vs ESS Pitch Condition
The pitch used for Sussex’s County Championship win against Middlesex had a little something in it for the bowlers, but those on offer in the T20 Blast have generally been well balanced. Nevertheless, Sussex tend to make home advantage count.

Tymal Mills will miss the remainder of the 2019 Vitality Blast campaign with a back injury, with new overseas signing Jason Behrendorff set to replace the paceman. Behrendorff has been signed up with spinner Rashid Khan having left for international duty with Afghanistan. Jofra Archer will also not feature, given his England commitments.
SUS Key Players
Philip Salt: The big-hitting batsman has scored 271 runs so far in this season’s competition to lead the Sharks’ batting charts. He has hit three half-centuries in total and has a strike rate of 162.27.
Alex Carey: The Australian wicket-keeper-batsman has scored 151 runs in his four innings for the Sharks so far, and continued his form in the County Championship win against Middlesex too.

SUS Team Form
Sussex Sharks’ unbeaten start might be over but they have still been in excellent form in the T20 Blast this season. They scored 158/1 in 16 overs to beat Kent Spitfires, chased 160 to beat Gloucestershire, posted 150/1 in 13.5 overs to see off Glamorgan and needed just 16.2 overs to reach 130/6 and beat Middlesex in their last home game.

After his wicket-taking return from injury in the County Championship during the week, Simon Cook could be in contention for the Eagles. They have not had a completed match for more than a fortnight due to the weather but the team could be similar to that which started against Glamorgan in Cardiff otherwise.
ESS Key Players
Cameron Delport: Took the headlines with his stunning century against Surrey earlier in the tournament. He still has a strike rate of 180 though the Eagles need more big runs from the experienced T20 star if they are to climb the table.
Ryan ten Doeschate: The Dutch veteran is playing a batsman only but in six innings has hit two half-centuries on his way to 150 runs.
Dan Lawrence: In six innings he has bludgeoned 174 runs from 90 balls in total, on his way to two half-centuries and a strike rate of 193.33 so far in this season’s competition.
ESS Team Form
Essex Eagles have been hugely frustrated by the rain, suffering washouts against Glamorgan and Middlesex in their last two matches, while only four overs were possible in the previous game against Glamorgan too. Prior to that, in their most recent completed game they were all out for 111 in reply to Somerset’s 225/6 as they suffered a heavy defeat.
Essex Predicted Playing 11
Tom Westley, Cameron Delport, Adam Wheather (wk), Ryan ten Doeschate, Dan Lawrence, Paul Walter, Simon Harmer (c), Mohammad Amir, Simon Cook, Adam Zampa
Sussex vs Essex Head to Head
Sussex have won their last three games against Essex to move to 14 wins in this fixture compared to Essex’s 11 wins.
