Surrey vs Somerset Preview & Prediction

They will be relying on their top four batsmen to do the bulk of the scoring for them. With Gayle no longer around, it will be up to openers Allenby and Myburg to give the innings a decent start. Jayawardene is scoring consistently and he is most likely to top-score for Somerset while van der Merwe has shown that he can be handy down the order.

Jamie Overton was outstanding against Gloucestershire where he notched up three big wickets. The fast bowler has taken the most wickets for his side this year, and he is going to be Somerset's best bet to pick up a few wickets early on. Surrey will also be looking out for spinners Max Waller and van der Merwe who may not be that easy to score off. 

Our Prediction

Both teams have gone head-to-head in four completed games in the past with Surrey having beaten Somerset three times. Two of these victories were secured at the Kennington Oval in the 2014 and 2015 editions, and this will give Surrey an upper hand in this match. However, they lost to Somerset by six wickets last month and this could play on the back of their mind.

Somerset won the first round quite comfortably, but beating Surrey at their home ground won't be an easy task. We, therefore, predict Surrey to win this match and move closer to the top four in the South Group standings.
