Surrey were beaten for the first time in any competition when they lost to Essex Eagles by 43 runs in Chelmsford last Friday. The 43 run defeat came in spite of the return of Jason Roy at the top of the order and Reece Topley with the new ball, both of whom had been playing for England in the 3-0 ODI success against the Netherlands. Although Surrey were beaten by the Eagles, they are still sitting proud at the top of the South Group. With 19 points from 12 games and a cushion of seven points to fifth placed Gloucestershire, Surrey are already guaranteed to qualify for the quarter finals.
Kent Spitfires recorded only their third win of the campaign against Sussex Sharks in Canterbury last Friday. The 2021 T20 Blast Champions have six points from 12 games and are rock bottom of the South Group. They will definitely not make the knockout stage of the competition but could still finish as high as sixth if they string together back to back wins from their final matches. Against the Sharks, Grant Stewart took 3-38 with George Linde returning very impressive figures of 2-14 from 4 overs as the away side were restricted to 158-8. In reply, Joe Denly hit 58 at the top of the order before Sam Billings (43) and Linde (24) took them home.
