Supernovas Team News & Playing 11
The Supernovas displayed a good bowling performance in their first match against the Trailblazers, restricting them to 140/5. Radha Yadav shone with the ball and returned impressive figures of 4-0-28-2. The left-arm spinner is ranked fifth in the ICC Women's T20 rankings for bowlers and she is one of the key figures in the team's bowling attack. Natalie Sciver went wicketless last time and it will be crucial that she strikes within the mandatory powerplay. In terms of batting, the Supernovas rely mainly on their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Natalie Sciver. Harmanpreet looked fluent in her knock of 46 not-out against the Trailblazers and she will be looking to back it up with another strong showing. Jemimah is the sixth-best batter in the women's T20 cricket and the team will want her to set the tone at the top of the order.
Danielle Wyatt, Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy are the big guns in the Velocity's batting line-up and good performances from at least two of these three batters should be enough to put the team in a strong position. Mithali has 17 half-centuries in the T20 format and the skipper will look to lead from the front. Danielle and Krishnamurthy are also experienced campaigners with the ability to bat deep and anchor the innings. The Velocity will turn to the likes of Shikha Pandey, Ekta Bisht and Amelia Kerr to do the job for them when it comes to bowling. Ekta and Amelia both took two wickets apiece last time and the spin duo will be the main threat for the Supernovas in these spin-friendly conditions. The onus of providing the early breakthroughs, however, will be on pacer Shikha Pandey who picked the prized scalp of Smriti Mandhana in the last game.
The loss in the first game has definitely put pressure on the Supernovas but they will take heart from the fact that they would have pulled it off if it wasn't for that late-order collapse. Velocity gave an exhibition of their bowling strength against the Trailblazers and they should fancy their chances if they are able to replicate that performance on Thursday. Both the teams appear pretty evenly matched on paper with quite a few talented players on either side but we feel the Supernovas, due to their slightly superior top-order batting, are better placed to win here.
