Trinbago Knight Riders are favorites to win

Who will win St Lucia Zouks vs Trinbago Knight Riders, CPL 2019?

St Lucia Zouks’ phase of home fixtures in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League continues when they welcome Trinbago Knight Riders to Gros Islet. The match, at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, takes place on September 21 with the live action kicking off at 20:00 local time.

This is the second of back-to-back matches for the Zouks, but their home fixtures got off to the worst possible start when they were bowled out for 101 chasing 173 to beat Barbados Tridents last time out. With four defeats in five games, they are struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Trinbago Knight Riders have the opposite record – four wins and one defeat – and even that loss only came after a super over. Their score of 216 last time out, followed their record-breaking 267/2 against Jamaica in the previous game to prove their batting form.

STZ vs TKR Toss Prediction

St Lucia Zouks won the toss last time out and fielded first as expected. The Knight Riders are likely to elect to do the same thing if they get their win at the toss for this game.

STZ vs TKR Weather Report

Showers are forecast throughout the night in Gros Islet, with a 56 per cent chance of rain at the start of the evening increasing to 80 per cent later on. It seems unlikely this match will avoid it.

STZ vs TKR Pitch Condition

The wicket is hard and fast, as expected, and the pace bowlers were in the wickets last time out before St Lucia Zouks’ batting collapse. With cloud and humidity thrown in too, it is definitely a day for the pacemen if they can dodge the rain.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Team News & Playing 11

STZ Team News

Colin Ingram made his first appearance of this year’s tournament last time out, while Christopher Barnwell also came into the team – Roland Cato and Thisara Perera making way. Obed McCoy’s injury will force the Zouks into another change too, with Krishmar Santokie a like-for-like replacement for the left-arm paceman.

STZ Key Players

Rahkeem Cornwall: Hit the first two balls of the innings for four before being dismissed off the third last time out. He has already proved with some decent knocks in this tournament how dangerous he can be if he sticks around. He also picked up a wicket last time out.

Andre Fletcher: Subdued by his standards last time out, but there is a reason he is generally in-demand as a big-hitting opener in T20 cricket. He has already shown his best form in this tournament too.

Fawad Ahmed: Facing his former team again, having been their top wicket-taker last season, the Aussie international leg-spinner has six wickets so far – although he did go wicketless last time out.

STZ Team Form

St Lucia Zouks have won just one of their five matches so far. Since Rahkeem Cornwall starred in their win against Jamaica Tallawahs, they have lost the last two in a row.

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots needed fewer than 15 overs to beat the Zouks, after St Lucia could only post 138/9 in their next game – the Patriots winning by six wickets. And their batting fell well short again last time out, as they were carted for 101 in reply to Barbados Tridents’ 172/6.

GAW vs TKR Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keeper

Andre Fletcher was subdued last time out, but he is still at the top of the Zouks’ batting order and therefore much more likely to score big than the Knight Riders’ Denesh Ramdin.

Batsmen

Lendl Simmons is in supreme form, smashing three big half-centuries in the last three games, and yet he can be backed at just nine credits. Team-mate Colin Munro is available for the same price too, and neither can be ignored. Kieron Pollard is ten credits but has starred with bat, ball and in the field already. Darren Bravo is fit again, meanwhile, and good value at 8.5 credits. The Knight Riders’ excellent batting fully justifies picking so may of their batsmen.

All-rounders

Rahkeem Cornwall will hope to get back to his big-hitting best with the bat this time, as well as building on the wicket he took last time too. For the Knight Riders, they are expecting Sunil Narine to be fit again – he may be a better pick than Jimmy Neesham, given he bats up the order and Neesham was so expensive last time out.

Bowlers

Fawad Ahmed is a key figure with the ball for the Zouks, having starred for Trinbago Knight Riders last season. Likewise, Kesrick Williams – who was in the wickets last time out – leads the pace bowling. For the Knight Riders, Ali Khan was fired right up last time and bowled well. Khary Pierre has always been a useful bowler too. Normally, Obed McCoy would be a good pick but he got injured last time out.

Captain/Vice-captain

Lendl Simmons’ supreme batting form is hard to ignore. He has batted extremely well in each of the last three matches, scoring big and pummelling plenty of boundaries too. He will be a good captain pick if he maintains that. Knight Riders’ captain Kieron Pollard had less impact with the bat last time out, but his form is generally good, he took three catches last time out and also a wicket with the ball too. He is listed as a batsmen, but he is very much still an all-rounder and a good option for vice-captain – particularly while the extent of Sunil Narine’s hand injury remains uncertain.

Trinbago Knight Riders Team News & Playing 11

TKR Team News

Mohammad Hasnain, Sunil Narine and Javon Scantlebury-Searles all made way last time out, as the Knight Riders brought in Mark Deyal, fit-again Darren Bravo and Anderson Phillip. Narine is expected to return from a finger injury, having been keen to play last time out, but Bravo and Phillip could retain their places after contributing well.

TKR Key Players

Lendl Simmons: Smashed 90 from 45 balls at the top of the order last time out, to continue his fine form opening the batting. He has scored 63, 86 and 90 in his last three matches to move to 46 career T20 half-centuries.

Ali Khan: The American quick was fired up last time out and looked back to his best as he took 2-27 with some hostile bowling, including a frank exchange with Evin Lewis. It cost him most of his match fee, but he may just have rekindled his bowling fire.

Kieron Pollard: Quieter with the bat than he has been, but he still scored 19 useful runs and then took three catches in the field, as well as taking a wicket too. The all-rounder has proved a good replacement captain for Dwayne Bravo so far.

TKR Team Form

Trinbago Knight Riders tasted defeat for the fist time last time out, after winning their first four games in CPL 2019, though even that loss was only after a super over. After smashing 267/2 against Jamaica Tallawahs in their previous match (Simmons 86, Munro 96*), they posted 216/4 against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, with Simmons hitting 90 this time. They tied, however, after the Patriots hit 216/7 and Carlos Brathwaite’s super-over heroics ensured the Knight Riders lost for the first time.
