Who Will Win Surrey Stars vs Southern Vipers, WCSL 2019?

Surrey Stars continue their Women’s Cricket Super League title defence when they take on the Southern Vipers at The Oval. The match takes place on August 12 and the live action begins at 18:30 local time.

The Stars go into the match unbeaten so far and looking to match title rivals Western Storm’s winning start to the competition. The Storm ended the Southern Vipers’ winning start last time out, giving the Stars the edge in this fixture.

Though still well placed after that defeat, meanwhile, the Vipers know they need to win this one in order to stay on track for a top-three place – albeit at a very early stage in the competition still.

SST vs SV Toss Prediction

Surrey Stars have won the toss in each of their two matches so far, and so they are probably due to lose one. Given they have been adept at batting first and chasing, however, the Vipers will have it all to do even if they do win the toss.

SST vs SV Weather Report

Rain showers could make for a reduced game, with a 32 per cent chance of rain given for Monday evening in London. The temperature is set to be a relatively cool 18 degrees in the capital.

SST vs SV Pitch Condition

This will be the Stars’ first match of the season at The Oval, though of course it has had plenty of use between Surrey and the World Cup this summer. The pitch has offered something for batting and bowling this season.

Surrey Stars Team News & Playing 11

SST Team News

Amy Gordon replaced Grace Gibbs last time out in the only change from the win against Yorkshire. Sarah Taylor, who withdrew from England’s Ashes squad due to mental health problems, has featured in both matches so far.

SST Key Players

Lizelle Lee: The South African, who scored three half-centuries during May’s series with Pakistan, was back to her best again last time out, top-scoring with 66 in the win against Yorkshire Thunder.

Sarah Taylor: The wicket-keeper-batsman has once again put her mental health problems to one side, kicking off this tournament with scores of 43 and 36* to get back to her best limited-overs batting form.

Dane van Niekerk: The leg-spinning South African all-rounder took 3-20 last time out to add to her 1-27 in the opening game. Earlier this month, she hit an unbeaten 50 and took 1-15 for the South Africa “Emerging Players” team against Bangladesh.

SST Team Form

Surrey Stars started their title defence with a low-scoring win against Yorkshire Diamonds at Headingley. Sarah Taylor’s 43 helped them post 130/9 from their 20 overs before Laura Marsh claimed 3-17 and Yorkshire fell from 115/6 with nine balls remaining to 121 all out.

Next up, the Stars faced Lancashire Thunder. Dane van Niekerk’s 3-20 helped restrict the Thunder to 120/7 and Lizelle Lee (66) and Sarah Taylor (36*) ensured they made light work of the chase – Surrey winning by eight wickets in 14.2 overs.

Surrey Stars Predicted Playing 11

Lizelle Lee, Bryony Smith, Sarah Taylor, Nat Sciver, Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Aylish Cranstone, Laura Marsh, Gwenan Davies, Amy Gordon, Mady Villiers

SST vs SV Dream11 Prediction

Wicket-keeper

Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Taylor are both dangerous with the bat, even if Beaumont will not actually be behind the stumps. Taylor is in good, consistent form so far and, while Beaumont can be hit and miss, her record speaks for itself.

Batsman

Two of the Vipers’ all-rounders, Suzie Bates and Danni Wyatt, are listed as batsmen, which is handy as it retains space for some other all-rounders. They are both well worth picking up, particularly with Wyatt already in good form. For the Stars, Lizelle Lee caught the eye in their last match. All three cost 9.5 credits, however, and with the all-rounders also expensive it may prove too much to select all three. To balance things out, Bryony Smith is eight credits.

All-rounders

Of those other all-rounders, Stafanie Taylor and Dane van Niekerk are both 10.5 credits, but both have justified why so far. Nat Sciver is ten credits and another capable of big scores and wickets – as she did when these teams last met. You can only realistically afford one, however. To counter that, Mady Villiers – though more a bowler than an all-rounder – can be picked up for eight credits.

Bowlers

While tight on credits, there are some good-value bowling options to be picked up – Lauren Bell and Tash Farrant are each eight credits. Laura Marsh has already showed good form, meanwhile, and she is 8.5 credits.

Captain/vice-captain

Stafanie Taylor has already made an encouraging start to the tournament with bat and ball and should be selected as captain. Suzie Bates and Danni Wyatt also have a lot to contribute with bat and ball, despite being listed as batsmen only. Wyatt was in good form in the first two matches.

Southern Vipers Team News & Playing 11

SV Team News

Southern Vipers have stuck with the same team for all three matches so far, though Thea Brookes will need to improve on her return of ten runs in three innings if she is to keep her place in the middle order.

SV Key Players

Stafanie Taylor: The West Indian all-rounder has delivered on expectation so far, with scores of 40, 38 and 44* and two wickets in the three matches. Her T20i stats speak for themselves.

Danni Wyatt: Started the tournament in excellent all-round form with a half-century and 2-14 in the win against Lancashire. She added 40 more in the second match of the tournament and her importance was laid bare by the Vipers’ defeat when she was out for nothing last time out.

Tammy Beaumont: Perhaps still too inconsistent, the big-hitting England batsman has nevertheless hit 90 runs in this tournament so far, including 53 in the opening win against Lancashire Thunder.

SV Team Form

Southern Vipers have already won as many games as last season – two – but lost for the first time last time out. The Vipers beat Lancashire by 34 runs in the opening game and then earned a final-over two-wicket win against Loughborough. They then posted 142/5 against Western Storm, with Stafanie Taylor top-scoring on 44* from 28 balls, but Tash Farrant’s 3-23 and two wickets in Suzie Bates’ final over could not prevent a three-wicket defeat with just one ball to spare.

Southern Vipers Predicted Playing 11

Danni Wyatt, Suzie Bates, Tammy Beaumont (c), Maia Bouchier, Stafanie Taylor, Thea Brookes, Paige Scholfield, Carla Rudd (wk), Lauren Bell, Tash Farrant, Amanda-Jade Wellington
